Welcome, Stella!

There might not be anything more special than seeing the excitement of a child as they choose to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. If you were in church on Sunday you likely saw Stella all but run up to meet Pastor Jeff.

Stella is a 2nd grader at Rosewood Elementary. She is the daughter of Rick and Bara Wetherell. She enjoys smiling for her mom's camera, drawing pictures that depict Pastor Jeff's sermons, and weekly dates with her parents to Dunkin Donuts.

Stella, we are excited about your faith decision and pray your love of God is always filled with the joy that was on your face Sunday.

Volunteer Opportunities

What better way is there to begin the new year than by giving your time and love to others in our community? Below are two opportunities to do just that!

Pathways Community Center
Thursdays, 8AM-9AM

In an effort to love to our neighbors who depend on the Day Center we are committing to having 2-4 volunteers at Pathways each Thursday. All you have to do is open the door as guests arrive, greet them with a smile, and help serve pastries and coffee. There may also be opportunities to share a devotion or prayer. If you are able to volunteer, please  CLICK HERE. By volunteering you are  not committing yourself to being there every Thursday, but rather to be part of a rotation.

Sullivan Middle School Poverty Simulation
January 7, 8AM-12:30PM

Sullivan Middle School is hosting a Poverty Simulation for its faculty. We are looking for volunteers to serve as part of the simulation. Volunteers will be trained to act out a role as a community member/public employee with whom our low-income residents encounter regularly. In turn, the faculty will act the role of various low-income parents and students. If you are able to volunteer, please  CLICK HERE.

Your Donation Makes a Difference

Dear Church Family,
As you consider ways to give during this holiday season, remember that any tithes or offerings to the church must be received by December 31st. Our 2019 budget year is drawing to an end and your gifts help us succeed in the good and beautiful work God is doing in this place. Contributing to God’s work at Oakland is very simple and we have multiple options for you to choose from:
Text Giving : Text “GIVE” to 803-599-3738. You will receive an immediate reply. Click the link in the reply to set up text giving. Text giving for 2019 must be completed by 11:59PM, EST, December 31, 2018.
•  Offering Plate : Place your offering envelope in the offering plate during either worship service. Offering envelopes can be mailed to your home or found in the pew racks in the sanctuary, as well as on the welcome table in the gym. The last services of the year will be Sunday, December 29. Contributions received on that date will count toward 2019.
•  Online Giving : Click on the "Donate to OBC" button below to donate via credit card. When using the link below no fees are incurred. You may make a one time donation or set up a recurring donation.
•  US Mail:  Mail a check to the church address—1067 Oakland Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Mailed contributions must be postmarked on or before December 31, 2018.
•  Online Bill Pay through your Bank:  Set up a recurring check payment to the church for the weekly or monthly amount of your gift. This type of contribution will begin in 2020, and cannot be counted toward 2019.
•  Bank Draft:  Fill out a planning card (located in the church office) and attach a voided check. Choose to have your account drafted on the 1st or 15th of each month. Drafting your bank account is one of the most inexpensive ways to give (no fees), is efficient in regards to book keeping, and provides consistent income for the entire year which helps us in planning programs, ministries, and missions. This type of contribution will begin in 2020, and cannot be counted toward 2019.

Your gifts are essential to the ministries of Oakland Baptist Church. Thank you for the generosity you have shown in 2019; and, thank you in advance for your faithful giving in 2020—it’s going to a great year for our church!

Merry Christmas!
Pastor Jeff
BIG THANK YOU  to everyone who donated Connie Maxwell gifts this year. Thanks to you, a children who are unable to be with their family at Christmas will be able to smile on Christmas. Oakland donated 220 gifts this year. Special thanks to Allison Timmons and Jane Rawls for getting 30 gifts donated from extended family and friends so that each child received two gifts and Oakland could provide a gift for each cottage. The sorting and packing was made easier by Porter Freeman, Griffin Timmons, John Robinette, and Jane Brackett. And to John and Patti Robinette, bless you and thank you for delivering all the gifts to Greenwood. Gary Williams, Mack Bailey, and Jim Vining, thank you for serving as elves to help load the van. All of this is just another example of being the hands and feet of Jesus, and it is deeply appreciated.
~Jane Lanford and Jane Rawls
Also, the Connie Maxwell project wishes to thank  Mr. Knickerbocker  in Clemson for their incredible generosity. They donated nine custom-made Clemson hoodies for children. If you have ever purchased college hoodies, you know they exceed the suggested gift amount. So when shopping for your Clemson items, be sure to check them out at
The clothing side of the Ministry Center will be closed Wednesday, December 25 and Saturday, December 28. Merry Christmas to all, and thank you for your continued support of this ministry.

Sullivan Support

Below are a couple ways you can help support the educational efforts of Sullivan Middle School while making a difference in the lives of students and teachers.

  • Reading Buddies - you would listen to students read and help them with basic comprehension. You would be reading with a student who is reading below grade-level and needs one-on-one help.
  • Greeters - you could be the smiling face that helps a student begin their day on a positive note. You simply stand in the hallway from 7:45-8:15AM and welcome students with a smile and a kind word.

Both of these opportunities are based on your schedule (not everyday!). If you have questions, please contact Kelly Scott ( If you are willing to help support Sullivan click below to sign up.
Taste of Oakland Cookbook

As a part of our celebration of Oakland's 70th anniversary we are creating a "Taste of Oakland" Cookbook. Just imagine how many friendships have been formed, hearts have been nurtured, and stomachs have been filled while enjoying pot-luck meals at OBC!

Just like a pot-luck meal isn't complete without each person's dish, our cookbook will not be complete without each person's favorite recipes. Please submit up to four of your favorite recipes (appetizer, side dish, main course, breakfast, dessert, bread, etc) by December 31. You may email your recipes to We are so excited for this Taste of Oakland and look forward to seeing your recipes!

We invite you to help share our story this year by posting pictures from events (Sunday School, Worship, Bible Study, Meals and more) and including in your caption #growingatobc. We would also love for you to tag us on Facebook and Instagram @obcrockhill when you post pictures from OBC.
