Mission Viejo House Fire: Emergency Response Wakes Neighborhood
MISSION VIEJO - The wail of fire alarms and a snap of flames broke the silence of a typically quiet Mission Viejo street Sunday morning. Orange County Fire Authority arrived on the scene of the house aflame on the 25800 block of Via Del Sur around 4 a.m. Thirty-three firefighters battled the well-established attic fire, the OCFA department spokesperson said. "Crews attempted to knock down the main fire, but had difficulty accessing the second floor due to stair compromise."

Firefighters battle blazes at Lake Forest apartment
LAKE FOREST - The apartment fire at 26500 block of Normandale Drive appeared to have started in a garage and extended to the 2nd-floor residence, according to OCFA. No injuries were reported and the causes were under investigation, said OCFA Capt. Alan Wilkes.

Fire breaks out at Santa Ana home
SANTA ANA - OC Firefighters extinguished a structure fire Sunday in Santa Ana, an Orange County Fire Authority captain said. The fire broke out in the 1800 block of Poinsettia Street at about 2:35 p.m., OCFA Capt. Daryll Milliot said. The department dispatched 24 firefighters to the scene and the blaze was knocked down at 2:55 p.m., Milliot continued. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remained under investigation, he added.

Firefighters Contain Enflamed Garage Thursday in San Juan Capistrano Neighborhood
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO - Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) fighters responded to a structure fire at a home on the 27000 block of Via Banderas in San Juan Capistrano on Thursday, Dec. 13. The call came in just after 10 a.m., according to San Juan Capistrano Fire Chief Rob Capobianco. The fire, he said, originated in the garage of the home. Capobianco also confirmed that no one was injured during the fire. More than 30 firefighters were on the scene to make “an aggressive interior attack” and were able to “hold the fire to the garage and limit any damage inside the residence,” Capobianco said.

Fire damages vacant Saddleback Lodge in Santa Ana
SANTA ANA - Firefighters battled stubborn flames that engulfed the now-abandoned Saddleback Lodge in Santa Ana early Tuesday. Crews were called to 1655 E. First Street at around 4:30 a.m. for reports of a fire at the vacant hotel, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. After an hour, about 65 firefighters were able to knock down the fire.

2 suffer minor injuries when small plane with engine trouble returns to John Wayne Airport
JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT - A general aviation runway at John Wayne Airport was briefly closed after a small airplane having engine trouble landed Saturday, but two people aboard were not seriously hurt, authorities said. About 4:15 p.m., a four-seat Piper PA-28-140 landed. There was some discrepancy in official accounts as to whether it crash landed, made a hard landing or a normal landing. Orange County firefighters received a report it was a hard landing while the airport said it “crash landed” on social media.

Small Plane Crash Lands In Dana Point
DANA POINT - A single engine two-seater Cessna aircraft made an emergency landing Saturday afternoon in Dana Point, Orange County Fire. The plane landed safely near the 2400 block of Dana Point Harbor Drive, on Doheny State beach, at just before 2:30 p.m, the OCFA spokesperson said. "There was a loss of power in the aircraft," OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito said of why the plane was forced to land.

Pedestrian, Driver Hospitalized After Trash Truck Rollover
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO - A traffic collision involving a garbage truck at Del Obispo Street and Via Belardes sent the driver of the truck and a female pedestrian to local hospitals Friday, Dec. 21. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) officials at around 9:30 a.m. were called to the scene where the truck was found on its side, said Capt. Daryll Milliot, the OCFA public information officer. The truck had struck the female pedestrian, who is in her 40s, Milliot said. Both the woman and the driver of the truck were transported to local hospitals.

Injured Cyclist Rescued By Helicopter Near Lake Forest
LAKE FOREST - Orange County Fire Authority responded to an emergency call of a downed cyclist in Shady Canyon, an OCFA department spokesperson said. Just after noon on Thursday, OCFA Helicopter 1 working with ground-based resources conducted the remote medical aid for the bike rider who suffered an unknown injury.

A Dog Named Freedom Joins OC Fire Authority Arson Task Force
ORANGE COUNTY - Orange County Fire Authority announced a new employee, Friday. This one, of the four-legged variety. No, he's not a Dalmatian! Freedom is a golden Labrador, trained by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms in the art of accelerant detection. "He sniffs out flammable liquids, such as gasoline, to help determine arson-caused fires," OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito told us. Freedom will be handled by OCFA Investigator Miller, according to Bommarito. Miller and the canine will visit scenes during investigations to quickly determine the origin of that fire, and whether accelerants were used to start the blazes. Welcome to Orange County, Freedom!
