OC Foundation Board Student Representative elected as VCCCD Student Trustee

Damaris Figueroa, the first student representative on the OC Foundation Board of Directors, was elected as the VCCCD's Student Trustee for the 2023/2024 term.

We are extremely proud of Damaris, who's been an active and vocal member of the Foundation's Board of Directors. There's no doubt her leadership and passion will make a difference within the entire District.

COMMUNITY EVENT

The OC Family Fest is Sunday, May 7

Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to the 2nd Annual OC Family Fest this Sunday from 12pm to 4pm on the Oxnard College campus.

We're expecting up to 2,500 visitors, who will enjoy many family-filled activities and learn about Oxnard College programs, faculty, and students.

The Foundation will be on-site to promote the OC Alumni Network, scholarships, and the Athletic Hall of Fame event.

CAMPUS CELEBRATIONS

TRIO Student Support Services Graduation

The TRIO Student Support Services graduation, held Wednesday evening, was an extraordinary experience for Oxnard College, its TRIO SSS program, and the SSS graduates and their families.

Sponsored by the OC Foundation, the graduation featured keynote presentations from:

• Dr. Rick MacLennan – Ventura County Community College District’s Chancellor
• Dr. Paloma Vargas – Oxnard College’s Dean of Math, Science, Health, Kinesiology, and Athletics
• Joanna Arenas – OC TRIO Upward Bound and TRIO SSS alumnus

Everyone in attendance also observed a moving speech from Lux Orozco, a member of this year’s graduating class, and inspiring closing remarks from Gabriela Torres, the Vice Chair of the VCCCD Board of Trustees.

BOARD

The OC Foundation welcomes Michael Inda to its Board of Directors

Michael is the Field Representative for County of Ventura Third District Supervisor Long.

He is actively involved with many businesses and community organizations in Ventura County. He's the past chair of the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, President of Casa Marina H.O.A. Board of Directors, Founding Board Member of the Oxnard Downtown Lions Club, Founding Board Member of the Making a Difference Committee, and former Chair for the Latino Market Place - Spanish Committee.

Michael was the recipient of the Diversity Collective 2018 Community Ally Award and the 2017 Chairman's Man of the Year Award for his volunteerism and advocacy in community services.

Alum of the Month

Lazaro Garza '19

I completed my Bachelors in Earth Science with an emphasis in geophysics from UC Santa Barbara.

I am at Western Washington University completing my Masters degree.

My favorite memory was seeing my friends, classmates, and myself sporting the university they were transferring to upon banners across campus. We were all excited to move on to something new, yet I knew there was a deep sense of pride for Oxnard College in everyone of those transfers.

In 5-10 years I see myself as a geophysicist using seismology to grow our understanding of our dynamic planet and protect those who live in it.

Invitation to all Oxnard College former students

We formed an opportunity for all past Oxnard College students to recapture fond memories, reconnect with fellow alumni, share advice and mentor current students, and contribute to the vibrancy of this great school. The Alumni Network is managed by the Oxnard College Foundation and rooted in collaboration with different campus partners. The goal is to foster a sense of belonging amongst all past students and faculty, while guiding the next generation of students toward their own versions of success.
