In continuing OC San’s course of providing leadership and innovation with the evaluation of emerging technology, OC San will partner with 374Water Systems to demonstrate the efficiency of the supercritical water oxidation process at Plant No.1 in Fountain Valley. The partnership will consist of procuring and operating a six-ton-per-day demonstration unit.
374Water’s AirSCWOTM technology is based on a physical-thermal process. It is an advanced technology that is geared to help OC San overcome several challenges it is facing, namely, solids processing and disposal costs, air emissions requirements for methane and power generation, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS compounds and microplastics, as well as food waste utilization, and efficient use of OC San’s treatment plant facilities. 374Water and its partners will install, commission, operate, and maintain the system for six months, and then transfer the operations to OC San.
This effort supports OC San’s biosolids management policy to maintain a diversified portfolio for biosolids management options that utilize multiple contractors, facilities, and product markets, while maintaining fail-safe, back-up options.
