The Barnabas Group Stands with Elam in Prayer and Support
Azar was discipled. Now she’s discipling others.
Azar and her family became followers of Jesus in Iran a few years ago. But they knew no other local believers. Isolated, their only spiritual food came through Christian satellite TV and online ministries.
Then, during 2020, Azar made contact with a believer who introduced her to Elam’s Safar discipleship journey. As Azar walked through the 30-steps of Safar with her new ‘hamsafar’ (or ‘co-traveller’) she fell more and more in love with Jesus. Soon, Azar’s husband and son also began Safar with their own ‘hamsafars’, and they also grew rapidly in maturity.
Azar has now led numerous other people to Christ and has discipled them through Safar. Today, a house fellowship meets in their home and Azar continues to be a passionate evangelist.
There are so many people in Iran like Azar and her family – trusting Jesus but hungry for more intentional discipleship.
That’s why Elam created Safar: to mobilize discipleship on a larger scale than ever before within the Persian-speaking church. Safar is a 30-step ‘road map’ for discipling a new or young believer in Christ. It is designed to be used 1-to-1 in a highly relational process that allows for deep personal engagement, accountability, and focus on Christian living.
Since Safar was launched online in March 2020 (www.safar.org), thousands of Iranian Christians have grown through this resource. Every week we hear testimonies of how Safar is not only enriching people’s walks with Christ, but is also starting to foster a culture of deep discipleship in the Persian-speaking church.
I want to thank many of The Barnabas Group Partners for standing with us in prayer and supporting us. Your prayers and partnership mean believers like Azar are being discipled and going on to disciple others in Iran and beyond.
