April Newsletter!

In a bold move towards sustainability, trees worldwide have announced they’ll start charging a small fee for the oxygen they provide. Payment options include hugs, compost, and pledges to use fewer plastic straws.

Experts say it’s only fair—after all, they’ve been working for free this whole time! 🌳

Happy April Fool’s! 🤡💚

Interview with the Ambassador

Madison Vorona has been with the Office of Climate Action for 2 years and is graduating at the end of this semester. Current Ambassador Rigo Salvatierra decided to sit down with Madison to hear about her experience and future plans.

What has been your favorite part of being a SA over the last 2 years?

Over the last two years, my favorite part of being a Ambassador has been engaging with the Rutgers community on sustainability. Working with a diverse team deepened my understanding of sustainability as an interdisciplinary field. Organizing the 'Sustainable Suit Swap' was especially rewarding, as it reduced textile waste and helped students prepare for their careers, making a positive environmental and personal impact.

What advice would you give to anyone considering applying to be an Ambassador next year?

Be true to yourself and passionate about what matters to you. Sustainability connects with every discipline, so don’t feel restricted by a specific background. Find your personal 'why' and remember that we all have a role in protecting the environment. If you want to make a difference, apply—you might discover unexpected opportunities that align with your interests.

What are your plans post-undergrad, and how will you take your experience in OCA into the future?

OCA has helped me build a strong foundation in sustainability communication. After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in sustainability consulting, corporate sustainability reporting, and explore environmental policy. I’m also aiming to intern with the EPA or NJDEP to work on environmental regulation and communication, while continuing to apply my experiences and passions in meaningful ways.
