OCA ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AND AWARD DINNER

FEBRUARY 4TH, 2023 (SATURDAY)

Greetings OCA Friends,

Our firm can’t wait for OCA to come to Austin! This is only the second time ALI CLE has been in Texas, and I wasn’t able to attend the first time due to a trial. Austin has certainly changed a lot since my 7-year stint in the 90s, but it has even changed a lot since 2016. There is always something going on in the city, and there

are many outdoor activities in and around Austin to explore, as well. Our Annual Dinner will be at Vuka Bouldin, which is a neat venue in a very fun part of town. I recommend scheduling some time to explore this area if you can. If I can be a resource, do not hesitate to let me know. – Charles

OCA'S ANNUAL DINNER AND CRYSTAL EAGLE AWARD CEREMONY

WILL BE AT VUKA BOULDIN

A VENUE IN THE HEART OF AUSTIN, JUST MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN AND ACCESSIBLE TO MANY LOCAL RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS.

OCA's Annual Business Luncheon Meeting will take place on Saturday February 4th at the conference hotel starting at around 12:00 p.m. after the conference ends.

OCA's Dinner and Crystal Eagle Award Ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. later that evening at a popular event space unique to South Austin known as Vuka Bouldin Creek. This nature-inspired restored warehouse comes with wonderful outdoor space, a loft area, antique furnishings, and local artist tapestries designed to inspire and delight all guests and visitors. You can view a video of the Vuka space by clicking on the red button below.

As Charles mentions, Vuka is in the heart of South Austin, just minutes from downtown. It is located between South First and South Congress. South Congress, or SoCo as it is called, is a lively district south of Lady Bird Lake full of great restaurants, boutiques, vintage shops, bars, and lots of live music. Visitors and locals alike love this part of the city. More information about this special event will be circulated over the next several months.

Once again we want to thank Charles McFarland and Board Chair Paul Henry for donating $5,000 each towards our dinner costs. We are ever so grateful for your generosity and sponsorship of this event.

THINGS TO DO AND PLACES TO SEE IN AUSTIN

AUSTIN HAS MUCH TO OFFER OUT OF STATE VISITORS

(BELOW ARE BUT A FEW OF MANY FUN THINGS TO DO AND SEE)

SAMPLE SOME OF THE BEST BARBECUE IN THE COUNTRY

Texas may not have invented barbecue, but it sure has perfected it. For those who want to sample Texas barbecue at its best, check out

Franklin Barbecue  located at 900 11th St., Austin. This restaurant has developed a national following since it was opened in 2009. According to its own Wikipedia page, the restaurant has sold out of brisket every day since its establishment.

VISITING SIXTH STREET

No visit to the "Live Music Capital of the World" is complete without a visit to Sixth Street also known as "Dirty Sixth." The area has countless colorful bars, restaurants, performers and music venues. On weekends, the entire area becomes pedestrian friendly after 10:30 p.m.

LADY BIRD JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER

Take an uber or taxi to visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, otherwise known as the Botanic Gardens of Texas.  Covering 284 acres in the Hill Country, the Center boasts beautiful gardens full of Texas native plants, an arboretum, a savanna meadow where you can learn about karst landscapes, and trails. More than 143 species of birds, 15 species of mammals, and 1,800 species of insects have been seen here.

CONGRESS AVENUE BRIDGE BATS AND

HAUNTED HISTORY TOUR

For those less squeamish souls, you might want to check out the Congress Avenue Bridge at twilight, where every evening crowds gather to watch a swarm of 1.5 million bats emerge from under the bridge to fly across Lady Bird Lake in search of food.

If being scared is your thing you might also check out the "Haunted Austin History Tour," which looks pretty entertaining and fun.

SUNSET FROM THE OASIS ON LAKE TRAVIS

For one the best views in Austin, head over to the Oasis on Lake Travis Restaurant also known as "Sunset Capital of Texas," to enjoy spectacular sunset views while dining.
