The Public Law Center's South East Asian Legal Outreach Program (SEALOP) provides free civil legal assistance at the BPSOS Center for Community Advancement, Inc., 13950 Milton Ave. Suite 301, Westminster, CA 92683.    
Clinics take place on the second Saturday of every month from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

OCAABA is proud to be a supporter of the OCBA's Diversity Committee Summer Social Celebrating Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging - For Diverse Attorneys and those who Support their Advancement on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Andrei's Restaurant in Irvine.  The Purpose of the Social is to bring together diverse members of the Orange County legal community.
OCAABA is excited to host its first Continuing Legal Education Travel Seminar to Tokyo, Japan Nov 7-12, 2019.

The price is $2300 (plus $270 tax & additional travel fees) per person based on double occupancy and includes airfare from LAX, transfers to and from Hotel, 4 nights accommodation in standard room and daily breakfast. (CLE fees are separate.)

Signups will be taken until cap is reached. Non-refundable deposit of $500 required with signup. Final payment due by July 1.

May 30 - Rededication Ceremony of the Betty Lou Lamoreaux Justice Center
Orange County Superior Court Presiding Judge Kirk Nakamura invites you to attend the Rededication Ceremony of the Betty Lou Lamoreaux Justice Center.
The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 30, beginning at 11:15 a.m. at 341 The City Drive South in Orange.
The late judge Betty Lou Lamoreaux was Orange County's first female Superior Court judge. She was appointed to the municipal bench in 1974 and then later to the Superior Court bench, and championed children's rights.

MAY 31 DEADLINE - NAAAP100 & Inspire Awards    
The National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) has celebrated Asian Pacific American leaders at the highest levels including Secretary Elaine Chao, actor George Takei, and Mailchip founder Ben Chestnut. If you know an APA - a public servant, business leader, social entrepreneur, or unsung hero - who deserves recognition, please nominate them for an award before the end of APA Heritage Month on May 31.  

June 3  - PLC's Volunteers for Justice Dinner 
On June 3 nearly 1,000 leaders from the Orange County legal, business and civic communities will gather for the Public Law Center's annual Volunteers for Justice Dinner.  Please join PLC for this inspiring event that also provides an opportunity to support the over 1,600 volunteer attorneys, paralegals and law students who work with PLC to provide free legal services to low income residents.

from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM at Judicate West, 1851 E First St #1600 in Santa Ana. Details TBA. Dinner will be provided, and parking is complimentary. Space is limited to first 25 registrants. Registration will close once capacity is reached.

June 20-23 - SABA North America Annual National Conference 
The South Asian Bar Association of North America ("SABA North America") will be holding its Annual National Conference at W Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets are almost sold out for this year's conference, themed "Rise Up & Represent." Conference rate is available at the W Midtown until June 1.

This year's Conference will feature a first-time attendee reception and offer more plenary sessions without competing CLEs. SABA North America Board of Directors elections are also coming up. Purchase tickets and obtain additional information here.

June 26 - 2019 California Women Lawyers "Elect to Run"
This non-partisan program was developed and organized by California Women Lawyers (CWL) to educate and encourage women to run for public office. The program allows attendees the opportunity to hear from candidates, elected officials and organizations who provide tools and support for running for office. This innovative program received the 2016 Outstanding Member Program Award from the National Conference of Women's Bar Associations. More program details will be sent out soon!

DEADLINE AUGUST 11 - NCVAA Law Student Scholarship    
The National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys has announced the Luu-Ng Family Trust Scholarship in honor of Hai Vinh Luu and My Thi Dang in the amount of $5,000.

HOW TO APPLY: Vietnamese-American law students enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school for the 2019-2020 academic year are eligible for the Luu-Ng Family Trust Scholarship. Applicants should demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to the public interest, and service to underprivileged communities. Proof of enrollment is required. Priority consideration will be given to applicants exhibiting the greatest levels of financial need. One winner will be selected. The Luu-Ng Family Trust Scholarship and the NCVAA Law Scholarship will be presented at the 13th Annual National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys in Dallas, Texas on October 4-5, 2019. The Scholarship recipient will receive a complimentary invitation and is highly encouraged but not required to attend or participate in the Conference. 

September 23 - VLI Lawyers For Warriors    
Veterans Legal Institute (VLI) invites you to the Lawyers for Warriors annual event for an evening of fun, networking, wine, cigars, delectable appetizers, and surprises. For the past 4 years, Lawyers for Warriors has sold out, having a full room of over 250 Patriots who represent legal, medical, financial, military, and other professional industries. Proceeds from the evening will ensure that veterans can receive free legal services so they thrive.

This year's Lawyers for Warriors Event will be held on September 23 at 5:30 pm at the Center Club in Costa Mesa. They are presently signing up sponsors and accepting nominations for an honoree whose commitment to veterans reflects VLI's mission to provide pro bono legal assistance to homeless, at risk, disabled and low-income veterans that eradicates barriers to housing, education, employment and healthcare and fosters self-sufficiency.

The Oakland City Attorney's Office seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated attorney to serve as Departmental Counsel ("DC") for the Oakland Police Department ("OPD") as a Special Counsel ("OPD-DC"). The City of Oakland is committed to providing its citizens the most effective, professional and accountable police force in the nation. We are seeking an attorney who is eager to play a high-level and impactful role in helping us continue to realize that commitment. The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a counselor and/or advocate in one or more of the following areas: public sector law, criminal justice, and civil rights litigation. A working knowledge of municipal law basics, such as the Brown Act, the Political Reform Act and the Public Records Act is a plus. PLC Pro Bono Case List The Public Law Center (PLC) has an ongoing (as of May 8, 2019) case list for individuals in need of pro bono representation. The PLC staff can answer any questions you may have related to your case to support you in your pro bono representation; locate a mentor to help you; supply you with samples and manuals (some case types excluded); provide translation support in Spanish and Vietnamese; and arrange for office space for you to meet with your client at PLC.
