SEPTEMBER 27 - PIPELINE COMMITTEE PAINT NIGHT
OCAABA's Pipeline Committee invites attorneys and law students from Chapman, UCI, Western State and Whittier to enjoy some wine, food, and painting (no artistic skill required!) as we kick off the 2018-2019 school year. Law students and attorneys can sign up to be an OCAABA member and apply for our mentorship program at Paint Night.

The Public Law Center's South East Asian Legal Outreach Program (SEALOP) provides free civil legal assistance at the BPSOS Center for Community Advancement, Inc., 13950 Milton Ave. Suite 301, Westminster, CA 92683.    
Clinics take place on the second Saturday of every month from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

OCBA Leadership Election - Voting Closes Sept. 24 @ 2:30 pm
The OCBA leadership election is now open for online voting. Terms begin Jan. 1, 2019. All officer terms are for one year; all Board member terms are for three years. The person elected 2019 Secretary will be expected to continue to serve in the following capacities: 2020 Treasurer, 2021 President-Elect, 2022 President.

Voting closes at 2:30 p.m. today - Monday, September 24, 2018. Only active attorney members are eligible to vote.

September 26 - SCCLA  "The Portrait Project"   
On September 26th, Southern California Chinese Lawyers will present "The Portrait Project" - A Presentation and discussion with Hon. Goodwin Liu, Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court, and Ajay Mehrotra, Executive Director of the American Bar Foundation, which is the first comprehensive study of Asian Americans in the law, a study conducted by Yale Law School, NAPABA and ABF. Hosted by: APABA, APAWLA, FLOC, FALSD, JABA, KABA-SC, LACBA, PALSD, PABA, SABA-SC, SCCLA, TALA, TABA, VABA-SC.

October 7-12 - IBA Annual Conference Rome 2018
The 2018 International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference will be held in Rome, the Eternal City. Founded nearly 3,000 years ago, the city is renowned for its ancient ruins, classical architecture, renaissance palazzos and baroque fountains. Rome is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city and will provide an elegant backdrop for the IBA Annual Conference.

As the saying goes 'all roads lead to Rome' and the conference will bring together delegates from all over the world for the largest and most prestigious event for international lawyers, providing an abundance of business and networking opportunities, not to mention the chance to explore one of the most fascinating cities on Earth. DEADLINE October 8 - 2019 Filipino-American Lawyers of Orange County Law Student Scholarship  
The Board of Directors of the Filipino-American Lawyers of Orange County ("FLOC") is pleased to invite rising second and third year law students to apply for the 2019 FLOC Bayanihan Law Student Scholarship. FLOC is the preeminent organization of and for Filipino-American attorneys practicing in Orange County, California and is focused on meeting the professional needs of its members who work in small and large law firms, corporations, public entities, and universities.

Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded at the FLOC Gala Dinner on October 25, 2018.  Application deadline is October 8, 2018.

OCSC Commissioner Position   
The Orange County Superior Court announces the opening of our Superior Court Commissioner position. Candidates must be active members in good standing with the State Bar of California and must have been admitted to practice law in California for at least ten (10) years. Persons seeking appointment as a Superior Court Commissioner must demonstrate relevant legal experience as deemed sufficient by the judges of the Court. Superior Court Commissioners may not engage in the private practice of law. Applicants must submit an Orange County Superior Court Commissioner Personal Data Questionnaire and professional resume by 5:00 p.m. PST on Monday, October 15, 2018.
Temporary Judges' Recruitment New Three-year Cycle Opens
The Orange County Superior Court announces a recruitment process for Temporary Judges, covering the next three-year cycle to begin fiscal year 2019-2020. If you are interested in becoming a Temporary Judge, please read the Application Letter and complete the Temporary Judge Application. The Application Letter describes the minimum qualifications and selection criteria, which will be used in this application process. Attorneys who are not currently active in the Orange County Superior Court Temporary Judge Program and who would like to be considered must complete the full application process. Those in the program currently must complete a renewal application.The Court will require those who successfully pass the application process to attend two mandatory three-hour training sessions in late spring/early summer 2019. Oakland City Attorney's Office Seeks Deputy City Attorney II (Affirmative Litigation)  
The Oakland City Attorney is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy City Attorney II in the Affirmative Litigation, Innovation & Enforcement Division. This position involves handling a civil caseload which includes, but is not limited to, case evaluation, propounding and responding to discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing for and representing the City in judicial hearings including settlement conferences, trials and in appellate courts. Among other duties, this position will focus on proactive lawsuits and other actions to protect and advance the rights and interests of Oakland residents with the goals of addressing discrimination and securing economic, environmental and social justice.

The Public Law Center (PLC) has an ongoing (as of September 13, 2018) case list for individuals in need of pro bono representation. The PLC staff can answer any questions you may have related to your case to support you in your pro bono representation; locate a mentor to help you; supply you with samples and manuals (some case types excluded); provide translation support in Spanish and Vietnamese; and arrange for office space for you to meet with your client at PLC.
