OCAEYC Board Meeting

Our next OCAEYC Board Meeting will be held via Zoom on Thursday, November 19th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. We will be sending an invite email to members. If you have any questions about our board meetings, or would like to request an item be added to the agenda, please email us.
NAEYC 2020 Annual Conference

This year the conference was offered via a virtual platform and offered over 40 workshop topics, networking opportunities, and resources. Registered attendees have access to view the conference sessions until December 12, 2020. You can find more information and resources from the conference here.

We hope you had the opportunity to attend! OCAEYC helped support the conference by sending out 90 "We wish you were here boxes." The closest location to receive a box was Irvine, California and the farthest one was mailed was to Japan. There was a lot of support from early educators all around the country!
Humans of OCAEYC

We are launching a new campaign and want to hear from you! OCAEYC is such a diverse group of practitioners, that we'd like to connect and learn more about the powerful work everyone is doing. We invite you to share your story!

Share about your journey in becoming an early educator, or how you are coping with serving children and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to hear your story! Please email us questions, stories, and photos at [email protected].

The Current Story of the OCAEYC Board:

We are a group of OCAEYC members who have volunteered to serve on our Board. We have come together to create resources, advocate, and support early childhood through OCAEYC. We have Board Members that are students, faculty, coaches, consultants, child care providers, and teachers. We all have full-time responsibilities in the field of early childhood, and we have volunteered to serve OCAEYC because we are passionate about the work all of us are doing to support children, families, and our community. In our newsletters we will announce opportunities to volunteer for committees, events, and more. All are welcome!

Have you read this book?

Authors: Jacqueline Woodson and Rafael López Rafael
Publisher: Nancy Paulsen Books, 2018
Ages: 4-7

There are times when we never quite fit in. In this mixed media story of children starting school, Woodson addresses what it means to find yourself feeling measured against others and feeling worried that you may not be enough. Ideas of measurement are reinforced in López’s artworks, where tables and chairs are rulers and children fret over how their hair or lunch makes them stand out from others in their class. Told from multiple and diverse perspectives of children living in the same community, there is an expression of home and wonder about what happens when we allow people into our stories and share who we are. Vibrant artwork reflects a rich multicultural environment and welcomes discussion about our differences and similarities. A beautiful selection for those first day of school nerves or what it means to be tolerant of others. - Rachel Zuffa, Library Media Specialist
