  • City of Irvine has opened applications for the Third District Small Business Support grant program, which provides qualifying small businesses with one-time grants of up to $5,000. Applications will be accepted until Friday, January 29. Learn more and contact Irvine staff if you have any questions. 

DYNAMEX IS RETROACTIVE: CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT’S REJECTION OF THE REASONABLE RELIANCE EXCEPTION IGNORES REALITY:*
  • AB5 drastically altered the classification of independent contractors in California. A recent court decision has extended the liability risk for businesses by ruling that the Dynamex decision is retroactive, opening businesses that acted in good faith to potential litigation. Read more.

  • OC Fair & Event Center Board of Directors has named Natalie Rubalcava-Garcia Chair of the Board. She previously served as Vice Chair in 2020 and assumes the role of Chair from Sandra Cervantes. “I am energized by the opportunity to serve as Chair of this esteemed board of directors,” Rubalcava-Garcia said. “While 2020 brought many unforeseen challenges, we know Orange County is a resilient community. INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE WELCOMES JEFF KIGHTLINGER, MWD GENERAL MANAGER: 
  • Yesterday, OCBC’s Infrastructure Committee was pleased to host Jeff Kightlinger, General Manager of Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). Mr. Kightlinger noted that 2021 is shaping up to be a very dry year for California, but MWD is prepared to handle a drought. MWD is also working on the largest water recycling facility in the U.S. Mr. Kightlinger is retiring this year—OCBC thanks him for his service to Southern California!
