OC REPORTS RECORD VOTER TURNOUT:*
  • Even a day before the election, OC's voter levels already equaled those in 2008 with just over 1 million ballots cast. According to the Registrar of Voters, that's 140 percent of voter turnout during the last presidential cycle in 2016. Read more.

OC-LA HAS SECOND HIGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE COUNTRY:*
  • Driven by declines in tourism, such as the closure of Disneyland Resort, OC and LA have a combined unemployment rate of 13.5%, the second highest among large metropolitan areas in the country. Read more.

YLWD HELI-HYDRANT USED TO BATTLE BLUE RIDGE FIRE:*
  • Yorba Linda Water District’s (YLWD) Marc Marcantonio Heli-Hydrant, which is nominated this year for OCBC’s Turning Red Tape Into Red Carpet Awards, is supporting local aerial firefighters battling the Blue Ridge Fire. The Heli-Hydrant reduced response time for helicopters combating the flames and was crucial in containing the wildfire when every second counts. OC VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE’S (OCVSO) COLLEGE FEE WAIVER APPLICATION:*
  • The OCVSO’s College Fee Waiver for Veterans’ Dependents benefit waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any public college/university. OCVSO’s online application has been fully functional since April 2020. The online app launched at the perfect time, as it allows veterans and clients to apply while government buildings are closed. The launch of the online application streamlined work processes, resulting in $3,500 per year in cost savings while processing a significantly larger number of applications.

$5 MILLION OF CARES ACT FUNDS ALLOCATED FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS:
  • Applications are now open for the the County of Orange COVID-19 Child Care Relief Program. Grants are available on a first-come, first-serve bases for licensed child care providers and non-profits. Apply here.
