  • OC has joined 19 counties placed on the state's monitoring list due to rising positive COVID-19 test rates, currently at 9.2%. If the trend in COVID-19 related hospitalization is not reversed, the state could reimpose lock down restrictions. More.

  • UCI Health and Orange County Department of Education are working in partnership to establish safety guidelines for K-12 education such as: Pre-arrival symptom screening, arrival screening, face coverings, and physical distancing. Learn what school will look like in the fall.

  • Small business owners are eligible for non repayable Economic Injury Disaster Loan advances of up to $10,000. Beneficiaries do not need to be approved for the loan to receive the advancement. APPLY TODAY!

GOV. NEWSOM ORDERS BARS TO CLOSE IN SELECT COUNTIES, RECOMMENDS IN OTHERS:*
  • As COVID-19 cases continue to rise Gov. Newsom announced that bars in the following counties are recommended to close: Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Stanislaus, and Ventura. These closures come after Gov. Newsom's June 26 recommendation that Imperial County reinstate its Stay-At-Home order. More here.

NEW CALIFORNIA CORONAVIRUS DATA PORTAL UNITES 58 COUNTIES WITH UP TO DATE INFO:
  • Governor Newsom has made California's COVID-19 data portal open-source in an effort to ensure all 58 counties make decisions based on the same data. The portal includes models which are used to inform policy decisions and current rates of spread. View the portal.

ADVOCACY UPDATES:
OCBC PARTICIPATES IN WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING ON USMCA:*
  • OCBC participated in a White House briefing call on USMCA implementation, where members of the United States Trade Representative and the office of Intergovernmental Affairs gave a final update to state and local business organizations. USMCA was strongly advocated for by OCBC, and was signed by President Trump back on January 29. Having an updated and normalized trade agreement is is critical to the health of our economy, especially in the face of Covid, where a pivot to more localized supply chains can help mitigate spread. USMCA takes effect starting July 1.

OCBC PROVIDES OC CITIES WITH RECOMMENDATIONS TO SUPPORT LOCAL ECONOMY:*
  • OCBC has sent a letter to every OC city outlining recommendations for safely reopening their city and supporting their local economy. These recommendations include encouraging residents to follow the state’s face mask order, expanding communications infrastructure networks, supporting new construction and developing opportunity zones. OC SUPERVISORS ASK GOVERNOR FOR VMT DELAY:
  • Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution formally asking Governor Newsom to delay looming vehicle miles traveled (VMT) regulations set to take effect on July 1, 2020. The County joins OC cities Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, Newport Beach and Tustin. These regulations will increase the costs of many homes in Southern California by thousands of dollars and will be devastating for affordable housing projects. UCI RELEASES SMALL BUSINESS REOPENING TOOLKIT:*
  • UCI has cultivated an in-depth toolkit for nonessential businesses following guidance from the CDC & local health care agencies. The toolkit includes downloadable signage for customer safety practices. 

CALTRANS OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR SMALL BUSINESS, CERTIFICATION FOR BUSINESSES:*
  • Caltrans has a number of resources available to support small businesses seeking to do business with California. Learn what your business needs to do to be certified to participate in the procurement process for the state by clicking here.

FEDERAL RESERVE LENDING PROGRAM EXPANDS SUPPORT TO SMALL & MEDIUM BUSINESSES:*
  • This program provides 5-year loans ranging from $250,000 to $300 million with floating rates, and principal and interest payments for businesses who have been affected by COVID-19.

  • OC Forum celebrated the 30th anniversary of it's programming series 'The Future Of' with a conversation focused on Transportation. FIVEPOINT HOLDINGS TO CLOSE RECORD BREAKING COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE DEAL:*
  • FivePoint is expected to sell Broadcom offices in the largest Orange County office sale in over three years. The deal hits unprecedented marks by selling for $537 per square foot, compared to past sales at $400 per square foot. FivePoint plans on deploying capital from this historic sale into funding for new health-care related developments adjacent to FivePoint Gateway’s new City of Hope campus. During COVID-19, FivePoint has sold three of its four Gateway campus buildings and raised $463 million in cash.

WELLS FARGO COMMITS TO DOUBLING BLACK LEADERSHIP OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS:*

The national announcement outlines how senior leadership will be evaluated based upon their progress in improving diverse representation and inclusion in their area of responsibility, which will have a direct impact on year-end compensation decisions. “I’m proud to work for a company that is not only vocal about racial injustice but is committed to making positive changes in our communities and businesses,” added Manishi. “I want my children to live in a better place when they grow up.”

SOCAL GAS REPORTS GROWTH OF RENEWABLE NATURAL GAS CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY:*
  • SoCalGas features Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) with state of the art technology that is carbon-neutral, meaning it takes more carbon emissions from the air than it emits as an energy source. The future of carbon-neutral fuel in transportation, homes, and commercial buildings would drastically reduce emission for one-third the cost and without the requirement of converting natural gas appliances for electric ones. The electrochemical technology has been developed by Opus 12 and funded by SoCalGas along with PG&E.

  • Disneyland unveils plans to transform Splash Mountain log ride into a new theme based on Disney’s first animated African-American princess,“Princess & the Frog”. Splash Mountain’s original Imagineer, Tony Baxter will help advise the project makeover.
