  • The Samueli Family, owners of the Anaheim Ducks and Honda Center, have announced plans for OC V!be, a $3-billion, 115-acre, mixed-use community and live entertainment district next to Honda Center. The project will generate over 13,000 construction jobs, 3,300 permanent jobs upon completion, and stimulate over $2 billion in economic impact. Click Here to view the plans.

DISNEYLAND DELAYS OPENING WHILE AWAITING STATE APPROVED GUIDELINES*:
  • The original planned opening date of July 17 has been pushed back while the state develops theme park guidelines, expected sometime after the 4th of July. Downtown Disney will still open on July 9 with enhanced safety measures. Read more.

ORANGE COUNTY PASSES 10,000 POSITIVE COVID-19 CASES*:
  • This weekend, OC surpassed 10,000 coronavirus cases. Last week, the county’s positive test rate was 5.26%, which was the highest level since late April. To remain open, the state wants to see a positive rate of 8% or less.

  • Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the CDC: “Getting the flu vaccine will help keep you and your loved ones out of doctors’ offices and hospitals and help conserve scarce medical resources to care for COVID-19 patients.”    

FDA WARNS THAT 9 HAND SANITIZERS MAY CONTAIN POTENTIALLY FATAL INGREDIENTS*:
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers to not use hand sanitizers produced by Eskbiochem SA, due to the potential presence of a toxic chemical--methanol. There are 9 hand sanitizers to avoid.

ADVOCACY UPDATES:
ENFORCEMENT OF AB 5 VS. NOVEMBER GIG WORKER BALLOT MEASURE*:
  • AB 5 classifies most independent contractors as employees, which has led to job losses and harmed the economy. CA Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed a preliminary injunction to force app-based gig work companies, like Uber, to classify their drivers as employees. To protect gig workers’ jobs and expand the job market, the Protect App-Based Drivers and Services Act has qualified for the November ballot that would let certain gig workers remain independent contractors. OCBC supports the ballot measure.
