ADVOCACY UPDATES:
BAD BILL HARMING PROPERTY OWNERS KILLED IN ASSEMBLY*:
  • Opposed by OCBC, AB 2501 narrowly failed last week, thanks in large part to Orange County’s Assemblymembers. The bill would force financial institutions and financial service businesses to halt mortgage payments for up to two years after the COVID-19 state of emergency ends, increasing loan defaults exponentially, and ultimately force many businesses to close. OCBC thanks Assemblymembers Brough, Chen, Choi, Daly and Quirk-Silva for voting no.

NEW H-1B VISAS SUSPENDED THROUGH 2020*:
  • President Trump signed an executive order restricting foreign nationals certain employment based-visas through the end of the year. Although OCBC appreciate's the President’s desire to want to get people back to work, Orange County companies heavily rely on the talent brought by H-1B visa holders to do the high skilled work the region is known for. This move will most likely hamper, not help, economic recovery. Learn more.
