STATE TO RELEASE "SMALL" AND "LARGE" THEME PARK GUIDELINES TOMORROW:*
  • Governor Newsom is expected to release two sets of guidelines for large and small theme parks. The guidelines come after State officials visited Disney World and Disneyland to learn more about current reopening plans. Continue reading.

15 DAYS LEFT TO VOTE NO ON PROP 15:*
  • This ballot measure would create a split property tax roll and raise taxes on commercial properties by over $11.5 billion - the largest hike in CA history. Despite being imposed on large businesses, Prop 15’s increases will harm consumers and small businesses across the board with higher rents and costs for goods and services.   • The 114-year-old Port of Los Angeles reached a historic benchmark for its busiest months in September and the three-month third quarter of this year. This achievement indicates economic growth and improving consumer sentiment in California as the holiday season approaches.

OC MAYORS JOIN CALL FOR STATE TO REOPEN SCHOOLS:*
  • Last week, Anaheim and Santa Ana Mayors joined leaders from California's 11 other largest cities in a letter urging the Governor and State Superintendent of Public Instruction to safely reopen K-12 schools to prevent further expansion of the severe education and opportunity gap many students, especially those in at-risk populations, will face as a result of the pandemic.

TURNING RED TAPE INTO RED CARPET SPOTLIGHT
TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR AGENCIES’ (TCA) COVID-19 COMMUNICATIONS PLAN:*
  • To address a 60 percent decline in traffic on The Toll Roads, TCA quickly developed and implemented an emergency Communications Plan that focused on TCA’s communications activities, quelling fears and evoking a sense of calm while remaining financially prudent. With a budget of only $16,200, the Plan allocated toll credit gift certificates to healthcare workers, provided educators and parents with curriculum and activities and highlighted good deeds by TCA and staff. TCA also provided relief to customers. TCA’s Plan promotes goodwill with drivers and the community while sharing resources to lessen the challenges of the pandemic.

ADVOCACY UPDATES
INFRASTRUCTURE AND WORKFORCE HOUSING COMMITTEES HOSTS LATHAM & WATKINS, SCAG:*
  • OCBC members heard from Marc Campopiano, Partner, and Nikki Buffa, Counsel, of Latham & Watkins on the timeline of NEPA reforms during the Trump administration and what changes may occur after the 2020 election. They also discussed the latest CEQA updates, including a recent mandate to consider wildfire risk during CEQA analysis. Sarah Jepson, Planning Director for SCAG, shared how implementation of Connect SoCal, SCAG's 25-year vision and transportation infrastructure investment strategy, will impact housing and mobility in SoCal, including directing over $638 billion to transportation improvement projects. Connect SoCal, approved in early September, also coincides with local jurisdictions' requirement to plan for future housing through the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA).

OCMOVES HOSTS FTA DEPUTY ADMINISTRATOR K. JANE WILLIAMS:*
  • The OCMoves Committee was honored to host K. Jane Williams, Deputy Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), along with FTA Region 9 Administrator Ray Tellis. Deputy Administrator Williams commended Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) CEO Darrell Johnson for OCTA’s forward thinking during the pandemic. The FTA provided $160.4 million in CARES Act funding and 60,000 facial coverings to OCTA to support continued transit operations throughout Orange County during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The Deputy Administrator also discussed new FTA guidelines to streamline joint development projects and encourage transit leaders to pursue projects in collaboration with the private sector.

COCA-COLA PIONEERS RECYCLABLE BOTTLE CAPS:*
  • Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling recently piloted a new bottlecap on its DASANI waters made of recycled plastic - the first in the beverage industry to do so. The innovative new design will help Coca-Cola reach its World Without Waste sustainability vision significantly increasing its use of recycled content and to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle or can it sells globally within the next decade.

CAL STATE FULLERTON RECEIVES JUNTOS AWARD:*
  • On behalf of Cal State Fullerton, President Fram Virjee accepted the JUNTOS Award for the university’s commitment to the Hispanic community through its two programs, Titan Dreamers Resource Center and Male Success Initiative. The programs received recognition for the positive humanitarian impact and philanthropic support for undocumented students and the development of undergraduate men of color.
