REOPEN OC NOW - BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT AND CIVIC LEADERS CALL ON GOVERNOR TO REOPEN THEME PARKS:*

DISNEYLAND PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:*
  • Disneyland and Disney California Adventure is set to unveil major new attractions over the next three years. Disneyland will debut the reimagined Splash Mountain as “Princess and the Frog” and steers ahead with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Disney California Adventure will also welcome Marvel superheroes at the opening of the Avengers Campus. 

OC PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS REEVALUATE LEARNING PLANS:*
  • OC public schools have been given the go ahead for students to return to campus on September 22, 2020. Some districts have opted for continued online instruction, a hybrid model and in-person learning. Click here to see which schools have reopened.

BE WELL OC EXPANDS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES:*
  • Be Well OC is a public-private partnership between county health agencies, hospital systems, local nonprofits, and additional groups to provide patient care regardless of available funds. OC’s second Be Well OC campus will be developed on county-owned property near Great Park in Irvine with services in psychiatric crisis-stabilization units, short and long-term mental health treatments, and assists with substance abuse disorders. 

OC AUTHORIZES 35-YEAR LEASE FOR JWA SMALL-PLANE SERVICE FACILITIES:*
TURNING RED TAPE INTO RED CARPET SPOTLIGHT:
SANTA ANA’S HEROES LANDING DEVELOPMENT:
  • The City of Santa Ana partnered with Jamboree Housing to establish OC’s largest housing development exclusively for veterans, Heroes Landing, which is now nominated for OCBC’s prestigious Turning Red Tape Into Red Carpet Awards. Heroes Landing transformed a blighted parking lot into 75 housing units along with onsite mental health counseling and employment services. The development is expected to save more than $2.5 million annually in emergency services annually. It’s not too late to nominate projects—click HERE to submit yours by September 18!

ADVOCACY UPDATES:
ANAHEIM CALLS ON THE GOVERNOR TO REOPEN DISNEYLAND, MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!:
  • As Disneyland enters its sixth-month of closure, the City of Anaheim is calling for the immediate release of theme park guidelines. This call to action comes as Anaheim experiences a $100 million budget deficit. OCBC encourages you to use the link below to write a brief email to the Governor asking for the release of theme park guidelines.

  • Fill out the form, selecting the "have comment" option and choose COVID-19 as the subject.
  • Select "pro" option.
  • Add your message or use this pre-written version - Nearly 100,000 jobs are at risk at Orange County’s theme parks because of delays in reopening. Across the country and world, theme parks have reopened safely without a single reported outbreak at a park. You have the ability to kick start the state’s economic recovery by releasing theme park guidelines to reopen. Please consider taking this important step to keep Californians employed!

CALIFORNIA FITNESS ALLIANCE ASKS COURT TO RESTORE REASONABLE AND EQUITABLE STATEWIDE ACCESS TO FITNESS:
  • CFA has filed legal action in LA Superior Court seeking to ease restrictions placed on the industry by the State. The group joins a growing number of industries seeking revised guidance from the State on reopening safely. Read the press release.

NATIONAL SMALL BUSINESS WEEK VIRTUAL CONFERENCE 2020:*
  • Join the U.S. Small Business Administration on Tuesday, September 22- Thursday, September 25 for a free, virtual conference. The conference will host educational presentations and panel discussions on ways businesses can adapt and modernize their business sector throughout COVID-19. Register here.

CALIFORNIA’S EXPORT TRADE SEES RECOVERY:*
  • July reports show that California businesses shipped a total of $13.487 billion in merchandise, which comes as 0.4% decrease from July 2020. This trend indicts an overall economic recovery from the country’s lowest point in April. 

O.C. MEDICAL DEVICE MANUFACTURER OFFERS FACE SHIELDS DIRECT TO LOCAL COMMUNITY
  • Applied Medical, an Orange County company that designs, develops and manufactures medical devices, is now offering face shields direct to non-medical professionals in need of protection during the pandemic. At the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak, Applied Medical utilized its local manufacturing capabilities to design and develop face shields for healthcare professionals on the front lines. The medical-grade face shields are now available to not only medical but also non-medical professionals in Orange County to help serve the community’s PPE needs. OC EXPANDS COVID-19 TESTING TO MORE VULNERABLE ETHNIC GROUPS:*

OC ICUS SEE THE LOWEST PATIENT LEVEL IN 5 MONTHS:
  • Orange County Department of Health reports the seven-day average for positive COVID-19 tests have dropped from 207 cases per day to 175 cases. The current number of patients in ICUs are 56, which is the lowest patient count since April 16, 2020. #MaskUP

OC WILL PROVIDE DRIVE-THRU AND MOBILE FLU VACCINE CLINICS:*
  • OC will launch a series of drive-thru and mobile flu vaccine clinics in all five districts. This county rollout will fight the “twindemic” and alleviate an increase of patients on the hospital systems.

BANK OF AMERICA PROVIDES MORE THAN 100,000 FACE MASKS TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS:*
  • In OC, Bank of America donated 100,000 masks to Second Harvest Food Bank for its Partner Network members and 6,000 masks to Community Action Partnership for staff, volunteers and clients who come on-site without a mask at their three family resource centers and the OC Food Bank. These recent donations are part of Bank of America’s national pandemic relief efforts and add to the four million masks that the company donated earlier this year in cities across the country. 

CLEAN ENERGY INKS DEAL WITH INDUSTRIES FOR RENEWABLE NATURAL GAS:*
  • Clean Energy’s signs contracts with transit agencies, cities, waste disposal companies, and truck fleets for more than 20 million gallons of Redeem renewable natural gas. These contracts will meet the need for ultra-low carbon fuel produced from organic waste. The renewable gas provides to these business sectors will substantially reduce greenhouse gases and carbon emissions. 

CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS INCREASES SPECTRUM DIGITAL EDUCATION GRANT COMMITMENT:*
  • Charter Communications pledges $1 million to the Spectrum Digital Education grant for 2020. The grant provides organizations the ability to expand broadband education, technology and training in digital education. Over 40 Spectrum Digital Education grants have been received for the use of technology labs, senior citizen digital skill training, online classes for families in need of homework and job support, and the purchase of laptops for disadvantaged communities.
