OC DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE’S COVID-19 STRIKE TEAM:*
  • In response to price gouging at stores in Orange County and online, the OCDA’s office quickly developed a hotline and online complaint form to lodge complaints. They received over 400 complaints in the first few months and responded to each within 48 hours. The Strike Team educated businesses on price gouging laws and encouraged their voluntary compliance, averting the need for enforcement action in nearly all cases. The DA also partnered with State Senator Tom Umberg to sponsor SB 1196, which closes a “new seller” loophole that set no price ceiling for retailers who did not sell the item prior to the emergency declaration.
