HOT OFF THE PRESS:
ANAHEIM AND OC PREPARED AND READY TO REOPEN SAFELY—NEED GUIDELINES FOR HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY:
  • Lucy Dunn, President and CEO, OCBC, joined leaders from across OC and Anaheim to highlight strong health and safety measures in place to reopen the hospitality industry—and not lose business to other states. Local leaders pressed Governor Newsom to release guidelines for convention centers and business meetings. Read more.

PRESIDENT SIGNS $1.9 TRILLION PANDEMIC AID PACKAGE - WHO GET'S WHAT:* 
  • Yesterday, President Biden signed into law a $1.9 trillion relief package that includes funding for state and local governments, schools, vaccines and more. Here are some of the local impacts of the bill:
  • OC cities can expect to receive a combined total of over $690 million.
  • Funding for restaurants.
  • $300 per week for unemployment.
  • $1,400 for individuals making less than $75,000, joint incomes less than $150,000, or head of household incomes less than $112,500.
  • Parents will receive $1,400 for each child listed on tax returns including adult children, as long as they are claimed as dependents.

SUBMIT A NOMINATION TO HONOR WOMEN ON FRONTLINES OF COVID-19:*
  • Rep. Lou Correra invites the community to nominate incredible women for the 2021 Women of the Year Celebration. Women of the Year Celebration aims to highlight women who have bravely held down frontlines amid the pandemic. Nomination deadline is May 8.

OBSTACLES IN HOMEOWNERSHIP:* 
  • LA-OC ranked below par in national homeownership. Although mortgage rates were low through pandemic year, ownership only rose .3%. Policies in LA-OC area may play a factor. Read more.

OC REALTORS TO HOST 2021 LEGAL UPDATE:* 
  • Join OC Realtors for a 2021 Legal Update with Robert Bloom, Senior Counsel, California Association of Realtors. Learn more about Prop 19, eviction moratoriums and state rental assistance. The free webinar will take place on March 29 at 1:00 p.m. Register here.

SOUTH OC VIRTUAL JOB FAIR:*  
  • Join OC Supervisor Lisa Bartlett, OC Community Services, and OC Workforce Development Board on April 7 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. for a South OC Virtual Job Fair. Opportunities include the ability to safely network with multiple employers, visit virtual booths, interact with hiring managers, apply for open enrollment opportunities, submit resume, and virtually interview. To learn more, click here.

  • Edison International has teamed up with the Outsmart Disaster Campaign to offer resources and tools to mitigate business interruptions in times of a hazard or natural disaster.   • OC Human Relations invites you to a panel discussion featuring OC agencies that are working to create social change. You'll learn about social justice disparities in Orange County and the efforts and resources of the agencies who are working to address these disparities. Register here.

ADVOCACY
OCBC SUPPORTS CALIFORNIA TOURISM RECOVERY ACT:
  • Although Disneyland and other amusement parks will be able to reopen soon, the tourism industry sorely needs support from the State. SB 285 (McGuire), the California Tourism Recovery Act, would provide Visit California with $45 million to implement their “Calling All Californians” campaign to jumpstart travel when it is safe to do so. Domestic leisure travel offers the best immediate opportunity for invigorating Orange County’s economy after the pandemic. Read OCBC’s letter here.

NEW FUNDS FOR CA SMALL BUSINESS COVID-19 RELIEF GRANT PROGRAM:*
  • California’s Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) announced for new rounds of funds for CA Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program per Gov. Gavin Newsom’s go ahead of a legislative package which provides $2.075 billion for small business impacted by the pandemic and a $50 million allocation for non-profit cultural institutions. Read more.

TRAVEL GUIDELINES TO COME AFTER MORE AMERICANS ARE FULLY VACCINATED:
  • Due to concerns for a travel related surge US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will not release travel guidelines until more people are fully vaccinated. 10% of population is currently vaccinated and CDC awaits number of vaccinations to increase before release of regulations. Read more.

  • SBA Orange County/Inland Empire will hold a 5-week webinar series on the wedding industry’s road to recovery and rebuilding. Industry experts will be covering topics specific to the wedding and events industry that small businesses can apply during the pandemic. Register here

HELP OC UNITED WAY SUPPORT SOUTH OC FAMILIES IMPACTED BY COVID:
  • Orange County United Way is asking for your support. They are helping 100 South Orange County families to get on the path to financial security. The program will provide them a financial specialist, a financial literacy workshop and a laptop for loan. Learn more and get involved.

IRWD LAUNCHES NEW VIRTUAL TOURS:
  • Irvine Ranch Water District has kicked off a new series of virtual events, featuring prerecorded tours and live presentations by IRWD water quality experts. The rotating series begins next week and will repeat in the fall.
