BEYOND THE BLUEPRINT UPDATES:*
  • On May 21, CA released information that most sectors in the current colored-tier blueprint, with limited exceptions for mega-events, can fully re-open on June 15. The plan does not require physical distancing and capacity limitations for most businesses. Click here to view the details.

VACCINES AND BUSINESS RETURN WEBINAR*:

CSUF ECONOMICS FORECAST STRONG REBOUND AS NATION REOPENS:*
  • Seven months ago, Cal State Fullerton economists Anil Puri and Mira Farka predicted an optimistic economic rebound that came to fruition through the vaccine-fueled COVID-19 turnaround, massive federal support and signs of a resilient economy reacting to the widespread reopening of society. In their latest 2021 Spring Economic Forecast, CSUF forecasts a national real GDP growth of 6.8%. Read more.

REP. KIM RECOGNIZED FOR BIPARTISAN LEADERSHIP:*
  • OCBC applauds Congresswoman Young Kim for being the most bipartisan freshman in Congress. 58.6% of bills she co-sponsors are with the opposite party. Thank you, Rep. Kim, for your commitment to finding common ground with colleagues to deliver solutions for OC.

ALL 3 DISNEYLAND HOTELS TO REOPEN BY JULY:*
  • The Disneyland Hotel will reopen on July 2 for the first time in more than a year after the pandemic closure. It will start with a partial reopen and showcase many refurbishments to the original Disneyland hotel that opened in October 1955, a few months after the theme park debuted. Disney's Grand Californian Hotel returned at limited capacity on April 29. Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen on June 15 — the same day CA will fully reopen. Read more
ADVOCACY UPDATE
AB 71 DRAMATICALLY RAISES TAXES ON BUSINESSES:*
  • While homelessness is a chronic issue that necessitates action and solutions, AB 71 would impose a $2.4 billion tax increase annually on businesses to create a homelessness fund. OCBC and business leaders statewide urge legislators to look to California’s significant budget surplus, including Gov. Newsom’s proposed $12 billion to continue supporting homelessness programs, rather than make it even more difficult for employers to compete. Read the opposition letter from R.E.A.L. Coalition here

AB 99 ADVANCES CA CRADLE-TO-CAREER DATA SYSTEM:*
  • Businesses and educators can better address opportunity gaps for students by establishing a statewide longitudinal data system, which is why OCBC is proud to support AB 99. AB 99 brings the California Cradle-to-Career Data System one step closer to reality, making it easier to create more effective workforce development strategies. Read OCBC’s letter of support here.

BILL REQUIRING COMPANIES TO DISCLOSE EMISSIONS HELD IN SENATE:*
  • The California State Senate wisely kept SB 260 from moving forward this year. SB 260 would have forced companies doing business in CA to report direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Many businesses are already taking innovative approaches to tracking and reducing their emissions without onerous state mandates. Read more about how this bill’s substantial data requirements would have harmed the economy.
