AG BONTA RESPONDS TO CALLS FOR CLARITY ON COVID-19 VACCINE MANDATES:
OCBC co-authored a letter from 11 statewide business leaders asking the CA Attorney General for more clarity on protections for businesses that implement vaccine requirements. The AG’s response offers these resources to employers considering vaccine and/or COVID-19 testing mandates:
The U.S. Chamber, National Business Roundtable and healthcare partners also created excellent resources and a comprehensive toolkit for employers on how to effectively communicate with employees about getting vaccinated.

OCBC ASKS GOVERNOR TO SIGN PRO-BIZ BILLS:
  • OCBC is calling on Gov. Newsom to sign supported legislation before the Oct. 10 deadline to sign or veto bills. These bills include AB 537 and SB 556, which help expand broadband access and close the digital divide, and AB 110, a bill enacting much-needed reforms to the Employment Development Department. The Governor has already signed AB 1506, which extends newspaper distributors’ exemption from AB 5 until 2025, and several bills encouraging new workforce housing production. Contact the Governor to lend your support for pro-business bills!

  • Nationally, the Hispanic population has grown from 50M in 2010 to 61M in 2020.

  • Currently only Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine has been approved for booster doses to be administered to certain populations, six months or more after their initial vaccine series. More information on who should receive a booster dose. Individuals interested in receiving an initial vaccination or booster dose can visit any local pharmacy or healthcare provider, or go online to Vaccines.gov, MyTurn.ca.gov or Othena.com, to schedule a vaccination appointment.   • As fall approaches, all residents over the age of six months should also get a flu shot. According to the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics, influenza vaccines can be safely co-administered with COVID-19 vaccines for both eligible children and adults. More details.

CAPISTRANO UNIFIED’S SUPERINTENDENT KIRSTEN M. VITAL BRULTE:
Capistrano Unified School District’s (CUSD) Superintendent, Kirsten M. Vital Brulte, is nominated for the Leadership in Public Service Award! Under Superintendent Vital Brulte’s leadership, CUSD returned to in-person school in Sept. 2020 while offering hybrid and online options. CUSD students represented 25% of all students statewide attending school in person upon returning to classroom instruction. Superintendent Vital Brulte also oversaw the distribution of more than 3M free meals and 2,000 Chromebooks to local students.
CITY OF STANTON’S PROJECT HOMEKEY:
The City of Stanton’s Project Homekey is nominated for the Building & Land Reuse and Community Revitalization Award! The City identified two motel properties to operate as temporary housing using state funding via Project Roomkey and transitioned them to 132 permanent supportive housing units through Project Homekey, in collaboration with Jamboree Housing and the County of Orange. The reduction in calls for service relating to chronic homelessness due to this housing is expected to save more than $1M annually.
