Shaping the Future of Medicine:

MSMS House of Delegates 2025

Michigan State Medical Society held its 160th annual House of Delegates meeting in Lansing on May 3, 2025. Delegates from across the state—including physicians, residents, and medical students—gathered to shape the future of organized medicine in Michigan. This year, the House addressed 50 resolutions and five Board Action Reports, covering a range of issues from bylaw updates to public health policy.

Oakland County Medical Society (OCMS) was

represented, with 16 delegates participating in the meeting. Dr. Sherwin Imlay served as chair of the OCMS delegation, coordinating delegate activity, facilitating discussion on resolutions, and leading the committee’s work.

The meeting also marked important leadership transitions. Dr. Amit Ghose of Ingham County was installed as MSMS President. Dr. Phillip Wise of Kent County was elected President-Elect, Dr. Bryan Huffman of Ottawa County was chosen as Speaker of the House, and Dr. Mildred Willy of Saginaw County was elected Vice Speaker.

Michigan Blood Lead Testing Rules Finalized;

physicians now required to order testing for children

To help prevent and address lead poisoning of Michigan children as soon as possible, laws requiring physicians provide blood lead testing to all young children in Michigan are now in effect. In October 2023, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed two bills into law requiring blood lead testing for all Michigan children at ages 12 months and 24 months of age (Public Act 146 of 2023) and that these tests be recorded on the child’s immunization record (Public Act 145 of 2023). This age-based approach to blood lead testing requirements is commonly called “universal testing.”
