The Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is officially observed on Sept. 17, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia



Welcome to the September 2024 newsletter for the Ontario County Republican Committee!


This month we are proud to feature our annual Constitution Day Dinner being held September 20, 2024.


Our keynote speaker is former gubernatorial candidate, Lee Zeldin with Mike Sapricone, candidate for US Senate, Michael Henry, candidate for NYS Attorney General, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, and Senator Pam Helming.


Ethel Peters, Chair of the City of Geneva GOP, will be honored as the Ontario County Republican of the Year and Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes will receive the Patriot Award.


The Constitution Day Dinner is an annual event to meet and hear from prominent leaders, candidates and office holders and to celebrate success on the local, state and national levels.

Please welcome Lee Zeldin, Keynote Speaker for the Constitution Day Dinner!


Lee Zeldin is the keynote speaker at the Ontario County Republican Committee Constitution Day Dinner.


Lee is an attorney and elected representative and officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He represented New York’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023. He ran for Governor of New York in 2022.

Please join us in congratulating Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes!


Chairwoman Trisha Turner will present the Patriot Award to Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes of Caledonia, who is stepping down at the end of the year after exemplary service to her consitituents.


Trisha said, "Assemblywoman Byrnes has done an excellent job in advocating and fighting for her constituents. She is very deserving of this prestigious award previously given to David Bellavia and former congressman and gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin!"

Ethel Peters will be honored as the Ontario County Republican of the Year at this year's Constitution Day Dinner. Ethel is the chair of the Geneva City Republican Committee, former Ontario County Supervisor and a retired principal of West Street School in Geneva.


Ethel began her teaching career in Victor for two years before returning to the Geneva City School District. She taught in Geneva for 32 years, becoming Assistant Principal and then Principal at West Street School, where she retired in 1992. She was called out of retirement and served as Interim Elementary Principal and mentor for two and a half years in the Penn Yan School District.

 

Ethel’s life always has revolved around community service. Service to her community, her church and her political activity has always kept her very busy. She was the first woman elected to the Ontario County Board of Supervisors from Geneva. She was the first female Vice Chairman as well as the first woman to conduct meetings for the Board of Supervisors. She also served on the Geneva City Council, representing the 2nd Ward.
