February 26, 2021
As we are now six weeks into the spring semester, we would appreciate all students and parents/guardians giving us their feedback on how the semester is going by completing a brief Distance Learning Survey. This survey assesses the experiences of students related to our academic, elective, and arts instructional programs.

Please take a few minutes to complete the Distance Learning Survey by next Friday, March 5. All survey responses are anonymous. Parents, if you have more than one child at the school, please complete one survey per student. Thank you in advance for your feedback!
The first progress report for the spring semester will be available for review in Aeries beginning at 12 p.m. today, Friday, February 26. To view the progress report, please log in to Aeries, click on the "Grades" tab, and select "Grades" from the pull-down menu.
Points to remember about progress reports:

  • Progress reports provide a snapshot of a student’s achievement at a specific point in the semester.
  • Plus and minus marks are used on progress reports to encourage students to continue a strong effort; they are not included with semester grades.
  • Progress report grades are not included on high school transcripts; your child’s prospective college will not see these marks unless you provide them a copy of the progress report.
  • As a policy, grade changes are not made for progress reports unless there has been a clerical error on the part of the teacher.

OCSA does not mail home paper copies of progress reports, so please be sure to download and print a copy for your records. If you or your child have questions or concerns regarding your child’s grades, please do not hesitate to contact the teacher directly using their school email.
The Aeries portal provides parents and students 24/7 access to report cards, unofficial transcripts, immunization records, test scores, and other important information and documentation. Please note that if you have never accessed the Aeries portal, you may need to contact OCSA Tech Support for your verification code information. They can be reached at techsupport@csarts.net.
The next six-week progress report period ends on Thursday, April 1, and those grades will be available on Friday, April 16.
Please be reminded that the final deadline to order AP exams for this year is Monday, March 1 at 9 p.m. After this date, OCSA is unable to register students for exams, and waitlists are not available. If you have not already done so, please log in to www.MySchoolBucks.com to make your AP exam purchase. Please email Dean of Instruction Sally Lopez at sally.lopez@ocsarts.net with any questions.
Updated information on the 2021 AP exam schedule and test formats will be messaged out to all families in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for that communication very soon!
During their meeting on Wednesday, February 24, the OCSA Board of Trustees approved the school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. The first day of academic classes will be Wednesday, August 11. Please click here to view the approved 2021-2022 school calendar.
Please note: While we do not expect there to be a change to the start/end date of the school year or to major school holiday breaks, some schoolwide events that are still in the process of being scheduled may result in minor adjustments to non-school days. We will continue to keep all families informed if the 2021-2022 school calendar is adjusted.
Middle school families: Remind your students to RSVP for the upcoming Junior High Olympic Games virtual event, which will take place via Zoom on Friday, March 12 from 2:30-4:40 p.m. The Leadership class invites students in grades 7 and 8 to have fun and make new friends while playing video games like Minecraft, Roblox, Among Us, Escape Rooms, and more!
RSVPs must be submitted through the Google Form by Monday, March 8. Upon submitting an RSVP, students will also be entered to win a gift card. For an additional chance to win, register by the priority deadline this coming Monday, March 1! Attendance is free, and students who sign up to participate will receive the Zoom details via email closer to the event date.
As a reminder, our school counselors have begun working with students to complete the course selection process for the 2021-2022 school year. Students will select courses in Aeries as a part of a Course Selection Presentation during their Social Studies and Health classes. Please keep in mind, however, that course selection forms signed by a parent/guardian must be uploaded through a Google Form by the deadlines listed below.
Students will access the forms in their grade level-specific Google Classrooms and are expected to complete their forms after their respective presentation and prior to their grade’s deadline. Forms received after the deadlines will be dated and receive less priority for classes, especially electives.
Finally, high school parents are invited to learn more about this process by attending Parent Course Selection Presentations with the school counselors via Zoom. The links and Zoom information can be found below.
The following is the schedule for the remaining student and parent presentations as well as course selection form deadlines.

Attention poets, performers, and deep feelers: Make your voice heard at the OC RYSE Festival of Voices Youth Open Performance Poetry Event. Hosted by the Creative Writing Conservatory, this virtual poetry event is open to high school students from all conservatories at OCSA and from high schools throughout Southern California. Last year, OC RYSE was sidelined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the team aspect has been removed, and the competitiveness of a typical slam downplayed, to encourage all voices to come out to participate — because let's face it, there's a lot to say right now!
Students in grades 9-12 can register for free by Sunday, March 14. The event will take place on Saturday, March 27. Twenty-five winners will be chosen to receive a workshop with Project VOICE co-founder Phil Kaye. Visit ocsacw.square.site/oc-ryse to register and for more information.
We need your help to ensure a robust and successful spring semester of arts instruction! Our conservatories are facing a significant deficit this year, compounded by the pandemic and the corresponding financial crises. In order to bridge this gap, we are asking our community to join us in supporting our outstanding student artists through our New Year, New Hope Campaign. Thanks to a Campaign Challenge Team of donors, all gifts will be MATCHED, up to $100,000. Double your impact and do twice the good!
The deadline to contribute to the New Year, New Hope Campaign is this coming Monday, March 1. Give now at www.ocsarts.net/NewYearNewHope. We are grateful to all the families who have already generously donated!
Time is running out to enroll your student in an incredible interactive virtual arts experience! Registration closes this coming Monday, March 1 for the CSArts Academy Spring 2021 session.
This spring, CSArts Academy is offering fully virtual extracurricular classes designed for students ages 8-15 of any skill level, in a variety of artistic disciplines. All classes are taught by the renowned educators of OCSA. Click here to browse our selection of eight-week and two-week online courses and to learn more about CSArts Academy.
