The OCSA Administrative Team has received several inquiries from families interested in having their students switch learning academies as we resume in-person instruction next week. In light of these requests, we would like to take this opportunity to provide some additional insight regarding OCSA’s ability to accommodate them.
When the instructional plan for Spring 2021 was approved by the OCSA Board of Trustees, families were notified that the deadline to make an academy selection was critical to enabling the Administrative Team to design a semester-long learning experience aligned to each family’s preferences. Families’ selections allowed the Administrative Team to make vital staffing decisions for our reimagined master schedule and provided the basis for the labor agreement with our academic teachers. The labor agreement specifies social distancing guidelines and individual classroom capacities on campus. Using the health and safety guidelines established by the CDC and CDPH as a framework, OCSA developed the parallel Virtual and Hybrid/In-Person Learning Academies with the understanding that, at some point during the spring semester, students in the Hybrid/In-Person Learning Academy would likely resume in-person learning two days per week on the OCSA campus.
Although we understand that the public health landscape looks very different today than it did when we originally designed spring semester schedules, OCSA cannot accommodate requests for students to switch into the Hybrid/In-Person Learning Academy for the remainder of the school year. We certainly wish that we could bring all students back to campus simultaneously, but given the current health and safety guidelines, classroom capacity limitations, and the agreed upon language in our labor agreement with teachers, we are unable to do so at this time.
We are committed to ensuring that ALL students, regardless of learning academy, benefit from an outstanding educational experience through the conclusion of the spring semester. And, as we look ahead, pending guidance from the State of California, our goal is to have all students back on campus for the start of our 2021-2022 school year. Until that time, we thank you again for your continued patience and understanding.

Please be aware that Course Selection Presentations for the 2021-2022 school year begin on Monday, March 22 for rising freshmen and on Monday, March 29 for rising 8th graders in their Social Studies classes. During this presentation, students will access the forms and video upload instructions needed to complete the course selection process in their grade level-specific Google Classrooms. Course selection forms must then be completed with a parent/guardian signature and uploaded via Google Form after the presentation. Mrs. Musso, Middle School Counselor, will use the uploaded course selection forms to input classes in Aeries for rising freshmen and 8th graders. The form deadlines can be found below. Forms received after the deadline will be dated and receive less priority for classes, especially electives.
High school parents are invited to learn more about the course selection process by attending Parent Course Selection Presentations with the school counselors via Zoom. The links and Zoom information can be found below.

Please read the letter fully for complete details and an FAQ. For many tests, students will have the option to take the paper AP exam in person on the OCSA campus or the digital AP exam remotely at home. AP exams will be administered for OCSA students beginning Monday, May 3 and continuing through Thursday, June 10, depending on the exam format. To view the full schedule, please click here.
During their meeting on Wednesday, February 24, the OCSA Board of Trustees approved the school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. The first day of academic classes will be Wednesday, August 11. Please click here to view the approved 2021-2022 school calendar.
Please note: While we do not expect there to be a change to the start/end date of the school year or to major school holiday breaks, some schoolwide events that are still in the process of being scheduled may result in minor adjustments to non-school days. We will continue to keep all families informed if the 2021-2022 school calendar is adjusted.
