March 5, 2021
As communicated earlier this week, assuming that Orange County’s COVID-19 metrics maintain or continue to improve, we anticipate the county will officially move into Tier 2/Red on Wednesday, March 17. Therefore, we project that OCSA’s first day of in-person learning will be on Monday, March 22.

We will continue to keep you updated as data evolves. Please stay tuned for next week’s Academy Announcements newsletter, in addition to other future communications, which will provide families with any updates surrounding our projected return to campus, as well as further details relating to in-person learning, COVID-19 testing opportunities, campus safety measures, and more.
Attention students: Don’t forget that next week is Spirit Week! The themes for each day are as follows:

Monday, March 8: Monochrome Monday!
Create an outfit using only one color.

Tuesday, March 9: 70s Day!
Wear a 70s-inspired outfit. Get creative with fun colors and patterns.

Wednesday, March 10: Flower Power Day!
Dress in your favorite floral or nature patterns.

Thursday, March 11: Class Colors Day!
7th is yellow, 8th is orange, 9th is red, 10th is purple, 11th is green, and 12th is blue.

Friday, March 12: Flashback Friday!
Post a spring picture from your childhood on social media. Be sure to tag @OCSA.Leadership.

Submit a picture of yourself participating in Spirit Week each day by 4:15 p.m. via this Google Form. Each day of participation equals one raffle entry for a chance to win a $15 Target gift card!
We would like to remind all students and parents/guardians to please take a few minutes to complete the Distance Learning Survey by the end of the day TODAY, Friday, March 5. We would appreciate your feedback on how the spring semester is going up until this point so that we can assess the experiences of students related to our academic, elective, and arts instructional programs.

All survey responses are anonymous. Parents, if you have more than one child at the school, please complete one survey per student. Thank you in advance for your participation!
During their meeting on Wednesday, February 24, the OCSA Board of Trustees approved the school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. The first day of academic classes will be Wednesday, August 11. Please click here to view the approved 2021-2022 school calendar.
Please note: While we do not expect there to be a change to the start/end date of the school year or to major school holiday breaks, some schoolwide events that are still in the process of being scheduled may result in minor adjustments to non-school days. We will continue to keep all families informed if the 2021-2022 school calendar is adjusted.
As a reminder, our school counselors have begun working with students to complete the course selection process for the 2021-2022 school year. Students will select courses in Aeries as a part of a Course Selection Presentation during their Social Studies and Health classes. Please keep in mind, however, that course selection forms signed by a parent/guardian must be uploaded through a Google Form by the deadlines listed below.
Students will access the forms in their grade level-specific Google Classrooms and are expected to complete their forms after their respective presentation and prior to their grade’s deadline. Forms received after the deadlines will be dated and receive less priority for classes, especially electives.
Finally, high school parents are invited to learn more about this process by attending Parent Course Selection Presentations with the school counselors via Zoom. The links and Zoom information can be found below.
The following is the schedule for the remaining student and parent presentations as well as course selection form deadlines.

RSVPs must be submitted through the Google Form by this coming Monday, March 8. Upon submitting an RSVP, students will also be entered to win a gift card. Attendance is free, and students who sign up to participate will receive the Zoom details via email closer to the event date.
Please be aware that on Thursday, March 18, there will be no conservatory classes for all students. Teachers from both OCSA and CSArts-SGV will be participating in a professional development event during conservatory hours on this date. Academic classes on Thursday, March 18 will occur as scheduled.
Additionally, there will be no school on Friday, March 19 to allow academic teachers to participate in professional development as well.
Attention poets, performers, and deep feelers: Make your voice heard at the OC RYSE Festival of Voices Youth Open Performance Poetry Event. Hosted by the Creative Writing Conservatory, this virtual poetry event is open to high school students from all conservatories at OCSA and from high schools throughout Southern California. Last year, OC RYSE was sidelined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the team aspect has been removed, and the competitiveness of a typical slam downplayed, to encourage all voices to come out to participate — because let's face it, there's a lot to say right now!
Students in grades 9-12 can register for free by Sunday, March 14. The event will take place on Saturday, March 27. Twenty-five winners will be chosen to receive a workshop with Project VOICE co-founder Phil Kaye. Visit to register and for more information.

Staff Professional Development Day (No School): Friday, March 19
