Members’ Meeting
and Demonstration
October 27 from
6:30 pm to 9 pm.

Invite a fellow artist! This will be our brief monthly members meeting as well as a “free” viewing on Zoom, Facebook and YouTube of an exciting demonstration by Michael Holter, award-winning artist who works in watercolor and oil.

While holding a BA in Art Education and an MA in Visual Art Communication, he has led a productive creative life not only as a painter, but also as an art teacher, creative director and businessman in fine art and commercial art, and owner/operator of galleries. He is a member of the Salmagundi Club, a signature member of The National Watercolor Society, the American Impressionist Society, The Watercolor Honor Society, The Transparent Watercolor Society of America, The Outdoor Painter Society, The Southwestern Watercolor Society, The Missouri Watercolor, The Society of Watercolor Artist and now...Plano Art Association! For more on Michael visit his website at www.michaelholter.com.
.
We will start the meeting at 6:30 pm as a Zoom meeting with our usual coordinates. Beginning at 7:00 pm, it is recommended that attendees continue to the demonstration session by switching over to either FaceBook Live or YouTube to view the demo in greater screen detail. You will be able to ask Michael questions during the demonstration and he will answer as many as possible.

This will be recorded and posted on our PAA public FaceBook and members-only FaceBook page. Please ask any of your fellow artists, would-be artists, and just art lovers to join us.

This is a great opportunity to ask a tremendously talented artist questions on technique, inspirations, tips, etc. Invite your fellow guests to join the Plano Art Association if they like what they see. There will be more of this to come.

Plano Oktoberfest Opportunity
Historic Downtown Plano Association Art and Wine walk series is gearing back up. OK, the first one is not exactly a wine walk….. since it is October it has been renamed Oktoberfest Bier Walk. Tickets are available through EventBrite for $30. It will be on Saturday, October 24 from 12pm to 7pm. Plans to make it Covid appropriate are in place. The organizers predict between 1,000 and 1,500 attendees...many of which will be viewing our exhibit.

Because our Small Works Members Show closes on October 20 , with art pick-up on the 21st (see next article), there will be space for three artists to show their works in the PAA gallery located in Rail Station Studios at 1013 15th Place, Plano, TX.

Anyone wishing to use the space, please notify [email protected]
In your e-mail state:
your name
type of work (photography, 2-D, 3-D)
email address
phone number

To be fair in selection for participation, we will place the names in three boxes based on type of work. One name will be drawn out of each box. The winners will be able to show their work during the Oktoberfest and the following week through October 30.

You will be asked to attend the Oktoberfest exhibit and be present to interact with customers during that time. Mask will be required and social distancing will be expected. Tickets are limited for this reason. Gloves and hand sanitizer will be available. If this still makes you uncomfortable, do not place yourself in the drawing. We understand at-risk people need to stay in shelter-in-place mode. This is volunteer only. Cut-off for entry will be October 21.

Those who enter may want to visit the gallery in advance to see how to hang or display their work. There will be two shelves each for 2-D and photography, and PAA also has easels available for display. For small items there are nails in the wall. There is no hanging system at this time. An A-Frame tiered shelf is available for 3D works. You can also bring pedestals. PAA also has a “cradle” or “manger” to hold unframed 2-D works.

All works must be marked for sale with prices indicated. A 30% commission on all sales will be retained by PAA.
Small Works Show is Winding to a Close
Thanks to everyone who made the Small Works Show a success! It is a testament to the determination of artists that we managed both a physical and on-line show during this time.

Everyone should be congratulated. Special thanks to Gene Dillard (our landlord and mentor) for helping us with the space. Also of mention is James Gilbreath who helped us by showing our gallery to walk-ins since he was manning his own gallery. It was a selfless task and our gratitude is endless. Gaby Pruitt was an incredible Jill of All Trades. She helped with art drop offs, installation, and labeling. Pam Jackson was a trouper during the mid-show Art Pick-up and Drop Off. And Nolan Mueller and Jennifer Siebert were stellar in our first virtual Show Tour. Jennifer made a fantastic tour guide and Nolan, Gaby, and Gene were the technological experts.

But all good things come to an end. The show will close on Tuesday, October 20, with Art Pick-up on Wednesday, October 21. Remember the schedule that we followed.

Last name A – H  scheduled 10 – 12pm
Last name I – P scheduled 12 – 2pm
Last name Q – Z scheduled 2 – 5pm

If that will not work for you, please e-mail i[email protected] to set up a different time. It needs to be on the same day. If you need to arrange for someone else to pick up your work, please let us know. We will not give it to someone we do not recognize. Again, masks are required and gloves and hand sanitizer will be available. Please help us maintain a safe environment. Thank you to everyone who entered. This could not have been done without the great art that shows off our talented artists.

Did you know you can give money to the PAA just by using Amazon Smile. Instead of using the general Amazon website, sign on the Amazon Smile. Designate Plano Art Association as your charity and any purchases you make will have a small percentage of the Amazon profit go to the PAA instead. It is an easy way to give money and you pay the same price for the items on Amazon Smile as you would for the regular Amazon. Just think if all of our members (and maybe their family and friends) would do this as a habit. It would really help our budget.
