“The elders who are good leaders are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain, and, The worker is worthy of his wages.” (1 Timothy 5:17–18, CSB)

October is Pastor Appreciation month. You may not know it, but your pastor certainly does. I am continually encouraged by the pastors of the Middle Baptist Association, and I hope you are too.

I appreciate those pastors who so tirelessly worked through the pandemic, as they were continually faced with difficult choices (which none seemed right) and yet they persevered on to continue to feed their flock.

I appreciate those pastors who faithfully study and prepare, week in and week out, to proclaim God’s Word as clearly and accurately as possible.

I appreciate bi-vocational pastors, which in addition to their Monday through Friday jobs, commit themselves to care for their congregations. For many of them they really work two full-time jobs.

I appreciate the pastors who are not content to rest on their laurels, but continually seek to improve themselves in order to make their ministry and their preaching more effective.

I appreciate the pastors who have committed themselves to regularly and faithfully pray for their flock.

I appreciate the pastors who seek not to promote themselves, but desire to make much of Jesus.

Most of all, I appreciate Great Commandment pastors, which above all seek to love the Lord with all their being.

These are the pastors of the Middle Baptist Association. I hope that not only this month, but as often as possible, you will show your pastor appreciation, recognizing that he is a gift to your church from your Savior.
