President's Message - Judy Weston

Don't be Afraid to Ask for Help

My Sisters in Christ,

As women, I think we carry a lot of Martha tension, we have to accomplish so much and going to a Holy Hour is one thing we scratch off of our list.

Your Vote Matters!

The two abortion ballots are out. There will be several emails in the next weeks prior to the election to help you have the most information as possible when you enter the ballot box. We are currently working on setting up information for you to use in your in your parishes. This information will be coming out in the coming week.

Ginger Jelinek Legislative Commission Chair

Abortion Initiatives on your November Ballot:

Vote yes on 434 and no on 439 – I have seen some verbiage instructing voters to leave 434 blank, if you feel you cannot vote yes on any abortion initiative. It is my understanding that to be considered “passed” – an initiative must receive at least 50% of the total votes. If both initiatives receive the required 50%, the initiative with the most “yes” votes will win. Because of this, I would encourage everyone to vote yes on 434; do not leave it blank and vote no on 439. We know this initiative isn’t ideal as it does still allow some abortions, but it is a step toward the right direction and a much better scenario than what 439 will leave us with, which is be a dangerous step for the safety of women and their pre-born children.

In addition to the abortion initiatives on the ballot, there are a few other issues you will see:

Referendum 435 – this is an attempt to repeal the school choice law. The Nebraska Catholic Conference encourages you to vote to RETAIN LB1402 to ensure the school choice law is upheld.

Nebraska State Board of Education Elections:

There are 4 positions opening for the State Board of Education. This year there is an opportunity to “flip” the board to a more conservative majority for the first time in probably the history of the board.

As a reminder, only those that live in the districts represented will see these names on your ballot. Please pass this information along to your family and friends. Click here for a map of the State Board of Education Districts.

District 1 – covers Lincoln and some parts of Lancaster County – vote for Liz Davids

District 2 – covers parts of Sarpy, Cass, Otoe, Johnson and Nemaha counties – vote for Linda Vermooten

District 3 – covers the counties of Madison, Stanton, Cuming, Burt, Platte, Colfax, Dodge, Washington and parts of Douglas – vote for Lisa Schonhoff

District 4 – covers the eastern portion of Omaha – vote for LeDonna White Griffin

President's Project

One of the important keys to completing your support for the Pregnancy Care Centers is to provide spiritual support in in the work of their mission. Your Deanery packet should have a sheet of four prayer cards for each parish in the diocese. They will fit in a regular envelope and can be mailed to the Pregnancy Center. Let them know you are praying for them especially during this important pro-life month.

Due to the timing of the Diocesan meeting and the NewsNotes there will be no Commission Reports. Next month will be full of valuable information from all three commission chairs. If you have not received the information please talk to Deanery Presidents about the information that was provided to them at the diocesan meeting.

LDCCW Sunday October 27, 2024

LDCCW Sunday is traditionally the last Sunday of October. Due to the ever changing events in our diocese that might require more attention. We are including a paragraph to go into the parish bulletin. Please share!

In these ever-evolving times, it's essential to pause and thank the unwavering dedication of our parish's women—especially this Sunday, which we proudly celebrate as LDCCW Sunday! Every woman in our community is a vital member of the Altar Society/Council of Catholic Women, and their contributions are nothing short of remarkable. Whether they are serving at fundraisers or offering heartfelt support through funeral meals, these incredible women embody compassion and service. They are pillars of Spirituality, Service, and Leadership, tirelessly working to uplift our community. So, let’s take a moment today to express our gratitude to the women in the pews who pray for us all and make our parish a brighter place! A thank you could make their day!

Our Lady of The Holy Rosary

To our Spiritual Advisors:

It was resolved during the Biennial Convention in April, to pray for our priests. As your President, the Masses are currently being said at St. Michael's Parish in Hastings Nebraska. Each month a mass is said for all the Spiritual Advisors of the Deaneries in the Lincoln Diocese

  • Purpose: To recognize and give thanks to our Spiritual Advisors. Whereas: The Bishop of Lincoln assigns a priest to be the Dean for each of the thirteen deaneries.
  • Whereas: The Deans are to serve as the Spiritual Advisors for the Deanery Council of Catholic Women. Be it Resolved: In gratitude and thanks we honor all the Spiritual Advisors for their guidance with a monthly Mass to be said in their honor during the 2024-26 term.

The women of Pi Alpha are so excited for Fall! We have wrapped up our recruitment season and are welcoming so many lovely women into our chapter. We have fun upcoming events such as a diamond painting night, weekly Bible study, a rosary making night with Phi Kappa Theta, the Catholic fraternity, and plenty of football tailgates! Here's some Pi Chi members on their first day of school!

Once our recruitment officially starts on August 24th, we’ll be in contact with them!
