Who’s Your One? During October, we are challenging every member of National Heights to pray for an opportunity to share Christ with someone in your life. Who’s your one? They could be a co-worker, someone at your school, a friend, a neighbor, or someone who goes to your gym. Prayer guides and bible markers are available to help you pray for your “one.” You could be the one who God uses to change your friend’s eternity! Who’s your one?
I can’t wait to see what God is going to do through you!

It’s Angel Tree Christmas Time Again!
The Angel Tree® Christmas is a program, sponsored by the Prison Fellowship® Ministries, which gives us the opportunity to lovingly answer the biblical call to minister “to the least of these” (Matthew 25:40). Angel Tree Christmas works by connecting qualified prisoner-parents with their children through the giving of Christmas gifts. Each qualified parent in prison prepares a wish list of two gifts, one clothing item and one fun item, for each child and a message to be written on the gift tag for that child. The Prison Fellowship® requests of those buying the gifts that each gift should be purchased new and valued between $20 and $25. This standard helps assure that children, especially multiple ones in the same family, all received gifts of similar value.
The Women on Mission at NHBC have led the church family in sharing through the Angel Tree Ministry for more than 10 years. The goal is to provide the opportunity for children in our church families to participate in the process so they might have the experience of ministering to other children.
Join us on Angel Tree Selection Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019.
1. Select a gift tag from the tree
2. Take gift tag to Registration Table & register your gift*
3. Purchase selected gift
4. Return your boxed (but unwrapped) gift & tag on or before
Angel Tree Gift Return Sunday, Nov, 3, 2019 to the church office.
*If you wish to purchase a gift for a child but cannot shop for the gift, we will provide a Personal Shopper. Just let us know when you register your gift tag at the table.

TRUNK or TREAT
Our eighth annual Trunk or Treat will be held
Thursday, October 31 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is an EASY, fun way to make positive touches with our community families! You can decorate your car if you wish, but that is not necessary. If you can bring some candy to pass out, that will certainly be helpful; however, we will also supplement participants with candy for their cars as well. If you would like to help with the cost of the candy, please mark your envelope “Trunk or Treat”. If weather doesn’t cooperate, we will simply move into the building. If you would like to participate, but would rather not do it on your own, grab a friend or more, and do it together….even more fun! Please let us know if you have any questions, or to let us know you’ll be participating. Bring your best smile - it will be a far greater gift than the candy we share, as you let God work through you. At times, we have had over 1000 community members pass through! Most of all, please PRAY for this event and the encounters we have with those who pass through!

This month as we gather for
Prime Timers on October 17, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall, we will enjoy one of our most favorite persons to come and entertain us. You all know him as
John Fielding. He will have us laughing and singing along with him. All are welcome, I know you won’t want to miss this month’s Prime Timers meeting. We will begin with prayer requests then a short business meeting before our entertainment. Everyone is asked to bring a dish of your own choosing for our carry-in lunch if you can, if not, come anyway. Remember to bring food staples or paper goods for Grand Oak Missions. Our Hostesses are: Carolyn Harshfield & Phyllis Sanford

WOMEN ON MISSION SHARE ANGEL TREE TESTIMONIES
On Tuesday, October 8, at 9:30 a.m. Women on Mission will gather in Fellowship Hall as they begin a new year of women’s work at National Heights Baptist. Doris Whitcher and Judy Divine, co-presidents, will be in charge of the meeting. Over-all ministry and outreach plans for the year will be discussed and decisions made, especially regarding holiday baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as gift bags for each child at Robberson Elementary School. Robberson is our church partnership school again this year.
Patti Crocker will lead the group in a special time of prayer for missionaries around the world who have birthdays on October 8. At 10:15 the group will have an informal coffee/snack/share time. Hostesses for this meeting will be announced in the Sunday bulletin. Watch for it.
Becky Bennett will be in charge of the program which will be devoted to sharing testimonies from the Angel Tree Ministry. Each year for the last 10 or 12 years our church has adopted 25 to 30 children of federal prisoners who live in our area. Our group leads the church in this important outreach ministry during October and November each year. Each child receives a gift of clothing, a game or toy and a Bible from our church. The committee is composed of Becky Bennett, Autumn Desmuke, Mary Dickenson and Becky Mabus. Autumn will be chairman of the ministry this year. We are always thrilled at the outcomes that happen each year and this will give all of us a chance to hear some of the “behind the scenes” ways in which our God works these miracles. Come and enjoy this time of sharing. Remember that National Heights will have Angel Tree selection day on October 20 this year.
TO THE WORK, LADIES!
Women on Mission will gather in fellowship hall on Tuesday morning, October 22 at 9:30 a.m. This work day is what we call a “fun/work day.” Some of our ladies will be tacking quilts for Grand Oak Mission. Each year the group makes 6 to 8 regular size quilts that are then dispensed by Grand Oak to those in need. Mary McLemore leads some of the group in making children’s quilts and 30 to 40 of these baby and children’s quilts are made each year. They also go to Grand Oak Mission for distribution to families in need. Doris Whitcher leads the group in assembling salvation bracelets which are used by Greene County Baptist Mission teams each summer, usually in Mexico. This past summer our church made and sent over 6,000 bracelets thanks to the youth and others for some great help. A coffee/snack/share time will be hosted at about 10:15. We will be happy to teach anyone who wants help in learning to tack quilts or to assemble the bracelets. It is fun working together. All women of the church are invited to come and join the work and the fellowship!

Stepping Out Testimonies
Many of our membership are “stepping out” into the community. This focus each month will allow you to hear from them, know how you can pray for that outreach and perhaps be inspired to join in as well.
NHBC is now partnered with the Blessing Baskets ministry in Republic, Missouri. They prepare baskets containing toiletries and other items for applicants in need and also a food box. National Heights can be chosen as a pick-up site by the applicants to pick up their items at a specified day and time. We are VERY excited about the opportunities God presents for these face-to-face encounters with families in our community! We will also share Bibles and info about National Heights. Our participation in this new ministry opportunity will not replace the Blessing Box ministry, nor involve additional funding. Please pray that God will be glorified through this outreach and that lives will be touched for Him.

NOTES/PRAYER REQUESTS/NEEDS FROM/FOR THE BLESSING BOXES:
Thank you for all your prayers! I received a call today offering me my old job back! God is so good and you all are a blessing! Thank you so much. God bless you!!
Thank you for your continued support of the Blessing Box Ministry. To make sure the boxes have non-perishable food items, paper goods, bibles, and devotional items we can always use your help with donations. You can contribute by marking your offering envelope “Blessing Box” with your donation, or leave items in the blue wagon across the hall from the sanctuary. Your donations help us show the love of Jesus in a tangible, practical way to the people of North Springfield. Thank you for giving to the Blessing Box ministry!

Dear National Heights Family,
Hello from San Antonio! Caleb and I have been getting settled into our new place here. Our neighborhood is beautiful with palm trees lining the streets and several Spanish style homes. We are walking distance from nature trails where the boys (and us!) enjoy discovering the local wildlife.
We have found a sweet Baptist church here called Village Parkway Baptist. The pastor’s name is Steve Branson. He is very active in local and national issues, and you can read about his work online. If any of you ever travel to San Antonio, we would love to have you join us for worship at VPBC.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and for staying in touch. Would you believe that we still have not had to buy diapers for Josiah! We are still using what you all gave when he was born. What a blessing!! We love you and think of you often.
Love, The Wheat Family
Our contact info: 12606 Nine Iron Way, San Antonio, TX 78221 e-mail: [email protected]
Dear National Heights Baptist Church,
