SCHOOL TENNIS NEWS - NEW Playground tennis courts at Williamsburg Elementary
Williamsburg Elementary in Reidsville has the "newest courts" in town.  Court One tennis builders painted lines for four permanent 36' youth tennis courts on the playground on Friday September 11.  RC Tennis Executive Director Shelby Rhyne and Coach Jackie Cantrell hosted the courts to "Play All Day" during recess on Wednesday, September 16.  Over 200 children and teachers had a chance to pick up a racket.

This project was made possible by a USTA 36' and 60' Playground Line Grant and matching funds from USTA Southern, USTA NC and Rockingham County Tennis Association.  All RCS playgrounds are open to the public after school hours and on weekends.  Grab your rackets and head on over!  You need a net you say?  Contact RC Tennis to borrow a portable 18' net or take two chairs and a piece of rope or string to make your own.
RC Tennis Association received a $300 donation from Di'lishi Yogurt's Community Partner program.  Thank you to everyone who voted with their spoon for our community tennis association.  Jackie Cantrell accepted the check on September 1 at the Eden store.  THANK YOU Di'lishi for helping Rockingham County "find themselves the game".

We have 28 young players age 6-18 on the courts at Jaycee Park in our Fall USTA Junior Team Tennis program. Many are playing for the very first time - learning on-court the rules of the game and how to keep score.

Team members age 6-11 play on modified courts with smaller rackets and lower bouncing red or orange balls. We have NEW permanent blended lines on one 4-court battery at Jaycee Park thanks to a USTA Facilities Assistance Blended Line Grant.  Our players, age 12 and above play over the net on the 78' court with green dot or yellow balls.

Come out and see just how much fun we have as we learn how to play the game.   Our final two matches are Sunday October 4 and 11 from 3-5pm.  Our rain location? The two indoor tennis courts at the Western Rockingham YMCA in Mayodan.

WHAT ARE THE RULES OF TENNIS?  Here's a book for you.

Are you a new tennis player?  Is your child playing for the first time in a RC Tennis Play Day or with our USTA Junior Team Tennis program?  Do you have the tennis bug after watching the US Open and just don't remember how to keep score?  Here's a book for you.

Take a minute to read this "user-friendly" book T he Illustrated Introduction to the Rules of Tennis .  This the fourth edition and includes match rules and scoring format for 10&Under players as well as adults.  RC Tennis has printed copies available for $3 each.   Click her to read the online version.

Bring your young players to the courts at Bridge Street Recreation Center in Eden for a monthly after school Kids Tennis Club on Thursdays October 22 and November 19.  There is no charge for this program provided by Eden Parks and Rec and RC Tennis.

Children age 6-12 are welcome.  More experienced players up to age 18 are encouraged to come and help.  Equipment is provided and no tennis experience is required.

Kids Tennis Club is a USTA program that allows kids of all ability levels to sample tennis in a fun and interactive way.  It's a great way to introduce tennis to kids in a supervised, open-play setting. We provide a social atmosphere where all kids are invited to join in on the fun.

Join us from 3-4pm on the courts or in the gym.  Give tennis a try!

25 USTA Junior players from across the Triad played at the Eden Family Y in the 2015 McDonalds Fall Junior Classic September 18-20.   To find a complete list of Junior Tournament events in NC click  here .

THANK YOU to our Board of Directors, volunteer coaches , interns, community partners, sponsors Reidsville Area Foundation and Xerox Corporation, and especially to Coach "B" and Coach Jackie Cantrell.

We agree, Katrina, "There's a place in tennis for everyone " right here in Rockingham County NC.
