Dear OCULUS & WAVE Team,

I hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July holiday! I know many of you turned it into a long weekend, and some of you even took the entire week off.  Whatever you were up to, I hope you had a wonderful time with family and friends or relaxed in your favorite spot. I certainly enjoyed that extra day off and took the opportunity to go on a nice bike ride in the North Cascades! For me, there is no better way to unplug than taking my bike out of cell phone range and getting lost in the mountains.
June went by in a blink of an eye. Between our Summerfest activities and the sales training in Germany, it felt like there was little time for business; however, that would be far from the truth! Another great sales challenge and plenty of open sales opportunities helped us turn June into our most successful revenue month of 2023! Thank you to the entire team for the extra work which went into this accomplishment. Remember Fundamental #26 (no subsection here 😉) and celebrate the wins! We had several great wins to celebrate in June, and every department contributed in one way or another. Also, WAVE broke another record in June; we have seen more lens orders in a month than in previous months. Well done, TEAM OCULUS & WAVE👏

If you type in “Recession 2023” in your Google search, you will get a return of almost 60 million results. While economists are still talking about a looming recession, OCULUS and WAVE products are in high demand, and both companies are ahead of our annual goals. Of course, we are not recession-proof, but our specialty markets of dry eye, myopia management, refractive, and cataract surgery will not slow down much during a recession. Let’s keep moving forward and focus on what we do best. Let's keep showing up and turn every conversation into an encounter, improving our customer relationships daily!

Click on the collage below to see some of my favorite Summerfest pictures. I hope all of you enjoyed the event as much as I did; it was great to see everyone during our long weekend in Washington!

International Sales Training 2023
Some of us had the tremendous opportunity to experience the incredible hospitality of our German coworkers a few weeks ago. As usual, things kicked off with a bang, or should I say the screech of tires, with some rather intense go-kart action on the track. This was quickly followed up by a great evening of socializing with our colleagues over a cold beverage and fresh out-of-the-oven pizza served at Christian Kirchhuebel's house.

On Monday morning, we had the privilege to tour the facilities. For many, this was their first opportunity to see real German engineering in action. It was truly amazing to see all the changes since my last tour in 2019. Our colleagues at GmbH have really been working hard to keep things rolling.

The product management team really outdid themselves this year with fresh and engaging topics. The sessions were applicable and relevant to what we do every day. The fear is that we will get the same presentation, polished up a bit, each year. This was not the case, and we were treated with great presentations that inspired robust discussions.

This is a great opportunity that OCULUS provides each year. Well worth the effort. Thank you, OCULUS!

22. ANY EMPLOYEE WHO HEARS A CUSTOMER COMPLAIN OWNS THE COMPLAINT

It is your job to work with the customer through the complaint, don't send the customer to other employees. Reach out to your colleagues for support, but own and work with the customer from start to finish. Let the customer know that you care!

Owning the complaint does not mean you work alone to achieve success. It means, utilizing the resources and teams we have at OCULUS to get the best outcome for the individual.

Recently I was unable to help a customer get the answers they needed that day due to travel conflicts. I reached out to Adrienne Kay who stepped in to help the customer. She answered and coordinated the necessary information leaving the customer heard and satisfied with the outcome!
24. ALWAYS BE ON TIME

Whether we meet online or in person, whether it is an office meeting for a meeting at a customer site or a trade show, always be on time, actually, always arrive 5 minutes early!

The only way to truly ensure you are on time is to be early. Being early is a fantastic way to communicate a few things:

It shows that you respect the people you are meeting with, that you can be trusted to follow through, and demonstrates that you are reliable.

Based on our roles within OCULUS, we all have different ways that being early could benefit us. Personally, I use 'Always be on time' as a sales tool. Most of my meetings are installs, demos, and sales calls with customers. I am usually meeting with people that I have not yet met face-to-face. Showing up early is a relatively easy and effective step to earn a great first impression.
