Dear OCULUS, WAVE & AVT Team,

With October, the official start of fall has arrived, and pumpkins have become ubiquitous in stores and around our homes.

The following headline caught my attention on October 1st, it read: Americans Are Still Spending Like There’s No Tomorrow”. With October being the start of our busiest quarter of the year, I could not stop but think, I hope the same is true for our Optometry and Ophthalmology customers.

The last week of September reflected the spending behavior mentioned in this article. More than 55% of the September revenue was generated within the last 5 days of the month. Thank you all for the last-minute phone calls, emails, invoices, shipments, etc. to get this revenue booked in September.

Last week, several of the OCULUS and WAVE team members met in Las Vegas for the Vision Expo West meeting. While we did not have enough time for a big launch campaign, we did introduce the new IPL devices from LUVO and the new OCULUS Easyfield® VR headset. Have you not heard about the Easyfield® VR? No worries, it is so new that we even had to print the marketing flyer onsite in Las Vegas. Here are some pictures from the show floor in Las Vegas.

Shared Resources: Accounting

We are pleased to announce that effective October 2nd, 2023, the Accounting teams of OCULUS Inc. and OCULUS Surgical Inc. have merged into a Shared Resource department, led by Zeno Weidenthaler at OCULUS Surgical. This is the fourth Shared Resource department implemented by OCULUS in the US, and it is expected to create a powerful synergy that will take the Accounting processes, procedures, and efficiencies to the next level. By integrating the expertise and best practices of both entities, we are confident that we will see significant improvements in our financial operations, and we are excited about the growth opportunities that this move will unlock for our teams and the organization as a whole.

Employee Spotlight
Employee of the Month
Tim Leso
Production Manager
Congratulations to Tim Leso, our September Employee of the Month! A new member of the OCULUS Team, Tim works as the Production Manager for AVT, and has been in the contact lens industry for over 35 years. Starting in the manufacturing of soft and GP contact lenses with a large laboratory, Tim learned well the importance of "quality comes first" to assure high production. After the acquisition of that company, Tim was invited to work for DAC International, a world leader in precision contact lens manufacturing lathing equipment.

Tim expanded his expertise in precision manufacturing and honed his skills in proper setup, maintenance, and calibration of advanced manufacturing technology. Tim became highly sought after as a consultant, working on Contract with many of the largest custom lens companies helping fine-tune their operational functions, but also with startup high-tech specialty custom design operations.

Tim has been instrumental in the development of several Advanced Vision Technologies projects, and now serves as the Production Manager for AVT. His dedicated work ethic is proven by the example he leads in the hours he gives in meeting the demands of production in the lab.

Tim is the father of two teenage boys and enjoys spending time with them. It is our pleasure to select him as the Oculus Employee of the Month.

Sales Rep of the Month
Congratulations to Mark Purdy for achieving top sales for August!
Service Anniversaries
Kathryn LaClair
Clinical Lab Consultant
Congratulations to Kathryn LaClair on her first anniversary at WAVE/OCULUS!
Kathryn embraces change and keeps an open mind (Fundamental #27). In her first week, we tasked her with representing WAVE at our booth during Vision by Design. While she had previously attended the event, this was her first time as an exhibitor. She quickly learned the basics and was able to demonstrate the software and answer questions by the end of the event.

Kathryn exemplifies a commitment to both customer and team education. Over this last year, Kathryn has revised the certification courses and created reference materials for our customers. She learned how to conduct live webinars and helped launch our bi-weekly Clinical Support webinar series. WAVE had its first hands on workshop and Kathryn stepped in with little notice to provide contact lens fitting training to students at Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Kathryn, your ability to work through problems with an open mind is admirable. We are so thankful to have you on our team. Thank you for your outstanding contributions this past year.

Top Monthly Fundamentals
7. HAVE A POSITIVE OUTLOOK

The future is a blank canvas on which we paint and create our reality. Have faith that things will work out and don’t spend too much time worrying about negative results that haven't actually happened. Use every mistake as an opportunity to find ways to be better next time.

Something happens...under your control or sometimes out of your control. Negative thoughts start to accumulate in your head and one might start to catastrophize. Change your mindset, sometimes easier said than done. This is the perfect time to take a big breath and focus on the good that you are learning. Be positive and have confidence that you can handle this situation in the future. This is all about having a positive outlook.

9. TAKE EXTREME OWNERSHIP

Any problem that you can solve or tasks that you can complete, get it done! Don't wait for others to follow up with you. It's your job to find out what is expected of you, when it is expected to be done, and follow-through. Immediately take notes of any action items you need to complete and keep an active, updated list of all your action items.

Try not to blame other people or external factors, instead turn your attention to what is within your control and areas you can actually make a measurable difference. Prove your integrity and take the initiative by determining your own tasks and deadlines. Be the kind of employee and co-worker that others can count on, and own up to your victories and setbacks.
