January Edition: Who is ready for some good news?

The Chicago Loop sees recent office activity, regardless of turbulent Covid pandemic. Amazon has signed an expansion lease (see below.)

Additionally the Old Post Office secured an $830 million loan. According to Crain's, "The massive refinancing reflects the value that 601W has injected into the building with an impressive roster of new tenants, defying a broader leasing slowdown with the COVID-19 pandemic accelerating the rise of remote work."

These are both great signs for what was a troubled real estate sector the past year. Activity remains strong in industrial and medical across the Greater Chicagoland area.

Loop Sees Activity with Hundreds of New Jobs Added by Amazon

"The e-commerce giant [Amazon] said in a statement that it has inked a new lease for about 67,000 square feet at 222 W. Adams St., expanding from its existing 140,000-square-foot office in the adjacent and connected building at 227 W. Monroe St. The new space tees up a local hiring spree for the Seattle-based company, which plans to add 450 jobs across a range of departments." 

New Hospital Group Merger Announced

"Federal and state regulators have approved a merger by two suburban hospital groups creating the third-largest medical system in the state.
Officials from NorthShore University Health Systems and Edward-Elmhurst Health announced the merger..."
