SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE SPOTLIGHT
Sponsored by Vending Connection

Today’s vending machines are more versatile than ever. But to get the most benefit and minimize service costs, operators and service techs need to conduct proper maintenance. Equipment manufacturer experts offered tips on this important subject during the Atlantic Coast Expo in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The presentation was part of the ACE Training School, sponsored by Southeastern Vending Services .

Luis Zinola, regional technical sales manager at U-Select-It International , discussed the maintenance of the Alpine Combi frozen machine, which has the same control board as the company’s ambient and refrigerated machines.

The service tech can review the machine’s temperature for the last 7-day period in the machine’s temperature log, Zinola said. Should the machine lose power, the tech will know if the power loss was caused by a machine malfunction. The machine’s event log will give the time and date that the machine lost power.

MatiPay , a mobile payment and telemetry solution that converts vending machines into smart sales points, recently won a CES Innovation Award, marking the second straight year the IoT division of SITAEL, based in Rome, Italy, division has won the award.

MatiPay has been installed on more than 40,000 vending machines and already involves more than 500,000 consumers, who can use their smartphone to buy refreshments and transfer money.

Thanks to a telemetry module that can be easily installed in a few minutes, MatiPay offers exclusives features for vending machines. In particular, it allows operators to communicate with end users directly in order to improve their loyalty and, consequently, the service quality.

Crane Merchandising Systems recently announced the launch of MEDIA2, the newly redesigned user experience for vending. MEDIA2 delivers enhanced performance with faster touch responsiveness on its larger 9-inch screen, smooth full-motion video playback, improved dimensional graphics, and increased storage capacity. To enhance service team efficiency, boot time is now less than a minute.

“We leveraged knowledge provided by thousands of MEDIA machines in the field, and excellent feedback from vending operators to deliver a powerful performing machine with a truly engaging experience for consumers,” said Kirn Reis, vice president and general manager of cold drink, snack and food. “With improved screen performance, suggestive selling, and advertising features, MEDIA2’s average daily sales in our trials were consistently 23 percent higher than original MEDIA.”

The Lavazza Group has finalized its previously announced agreement to acquire Mars’ coffee businesses, including the Flavia and Klix systems, leading brands in the office coffee service and vending segments. The new name of the acquired business becomes  Lavazza Professional.

Under this agreement, the Lavazza Group has acquired Mars’ coffee businesses in North America, Germany, the U.K., France, Canada and Japan, including its related systems and its production facilities in the U.K. and United States.

Lavazza Professional  includes the Flavia tabletop machines business and the Klix Vending machine business, which boast a machine park installed throughout their markets of operation, and a broad portfolio of coffee and other beverages commercialized under both proprietary brands (e.g., Alterra) as well as through licensed brands.

Avanti Markets recently celebrated 10 years of successful micro-market business operations. The unattended retail technology firm — originally launched by a few industry veterans led by Jim Brinton, CEO for Avanti Markets — has grown into a micro market solution powerhouse with the help of hundreds of independent operators networked in thousands of locations nationwide.

“To say that I am grateful and humbled by my team’s success and the support of the operators who have joined the Avanti family over the past ten years would be an enormous understatement,” said Brinton, “I am equally grateful to all of the people who supported us along the way. That said, we’re just getting warmed up — our best days are ahead of us.”
