Turning yesterday’s landfill into tomorrow’s powerplant 

Last month, the City of Cincinnati officially broke ground on the Center Hill Landfill Solar Array. Generating 10-megawatts of power, this array will be the largest site of solar production in the City. We couldn’t have done it without immense support from our partners, City colleagues, and elected leadership.

Join us for our first ever Cincy Climate Week

Cincinnati Climate Week brings together community organizations, businesses, educators, advocates, and residents for a week of events focused on climate solutions, sustainability, and building a more resilient region. Events can include workshops, panels, tours, art events, and hands-on activities. Interested in hosting an event or just attending?

Although some energy tax credits went away in 2025, there are still ways to save big on sustainability projects like:

• Battery Backup 
• Ground Source Heat Pumps 
• EV Charging 
• Housing Development

Bike repair stations donated by The Devou Good Foundation have been installed at eight City locations 

Find them at City Hall, Lunken Playfield, Bramble Recreation Area, Roselawn Sports Complex, Winton Hills Recreation Center, Hawkins Recreation Area, North Fairmount Recreation Area, and Evans Recreation Area.

Two more repair stations are forthcoming at Mt. Auburn Pool and the new Mt. Airy Mountain Bike Skills Course.

Repair stations include a  bike work stand, air pump, and all the tools needed to  fill your standard bike repair needs. 

Special thanks to the Devou Good Foundation for their generous donation, Tri-State Trails for their maintenance partnership, and the Cincinnati Recreation  Commission, Cincy Parks, and City Hall for hosting this bike infrastructure at their facilities.

As the impacts of climate change intensify in the coming decades, millions of Americans could move away from the regions most severely impacted and towards less vulnerable areas, like Cincinnati.

Cities like Cincinnati must balance planning for potential newcomers with  addressing current challenges around affordable housing, transportation, and infrastructure.

We're looking to bring together a diverse group of community members, nonprofit leaders, researchers, planners, and policymakers to discuss the challenges and opportunities that climate migration could create for Cincinnati. If this sounds like you, learn more about the session and register today.

Youth Climate Action continues to make strides in Cincinnati

Earlier this year, we had the honor of welcoming Dr. Kimberly Leary and Dr. Griffin Jones from the Good Services Lab at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, who spent a day seeing our youth-led climate work up close. From research presentations to garden site tours, young project leads  showcased the real impact of their work happening right here in our community and how it has formed them as climate leaders in our city. 

Cincinnati was so grateful to participate in the inaugural round of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund Program, and we’re excited to announce that Cincinnati has been selected to participate in the next cohort of the program, bringing more funds and resources to youth sustainability initiatives locally. Happy International Composting Awareness Week

Did you know 31.1% of Cincinnati's waste is made up of organic materials such as fruit and vegetable scraps and yard trimmings? When food scraps and yard trimmings are landfilled, they get buried in anaerobic (no oxygen) conditions and create methane emissions – a more toxic greenhouse gas than carbon. Organic materials can be diverted from the landfill by composting them instead. Composting is the controlled process of decomposing organic materials under aerobic (oxygen present) conditions to create a nutrient-rich soil amendment. It's nature's way of recycling! 

Madisonville Recycle making a positive impact by helping reduce illegal dumping and keeping waste out of landfills 

Madisonville Recycle is now hosting two, free public recycling dumpsters for public drop-off within their gated facility. These new public recycling dumpsters are perfect if you don’t have household recycling access or just have an overflowing bin. Any items that you would normally put in your curbside recycling bin can go into the public recycling dumpsters.  

So gather up all those recyclables and drop them off to Madisonville Recycle located at 6300 Warrick St during business hours: 

• Monday–Saturday: 8 AM – 6 PM or 
• Sunday: 11 AM – 3 PM.
