The 2022 Eastern Energy Expo Returns Strong
|
With more than 3,000 attendees, 230 exhibitors and 19 trucks on display, the 2022 Eastern Energy Expo was an incredible success. The convention and trade show resulted in countless accolades and benefits for attendees, exhibitors and sponsors.
Three industry leaders - the Atlantic Region Energy Expo (AREE), the National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals (OESP), and the Pennsylvania Petroleum Association (PPA) - joined forces for another powerful annual conference, as the show returned in person for the first time in three years. The event again provided a forum that brought all segments of the petroleum marketing industry together to network and learn. Heating fuel marketers, motor fuel distributors and HVAC and oil service professionals reunited for this wonderful event.
The show featured more than 65 business programs across three tracks (Technical, Business, Motor Fuels/C-Store) and included nearly 42 new exhibiting companies offering products and services for the energy and home comfort industry.
|
The convention also offered a variety of social and networking opportunities, including the OESP Reception/Hospitality Night, the Annual OESP Awards Banquet, the Annual Dave Nelsen Scholarship Golf Tournament and the Care to Ride event. It was great to see so many familiar faces and to welcome new OESP members!
Marking the debut of the show under one roof, the Mohegan Sun did not disappoint. While there was a huge crowd at this year's event, conference organizers believe that next year's event - the premier trade show for the energy and comfort industries - will be even larger. The venue will move to the convention center in Atlantic City, with the host hotel as Harrah’s Resort Casino, from May 21-24, 2023.
|
As education is a key component of the event, organizers will be looking to further enhance the business programs for 2023, attracting even more attendees seeking learning opportunities not easily found elsewhere.
Participating associations also include Connecticut Energy Marketers Association, Mid-Atlantic Petroleum Dealers Association, Empire State Energy Association, New York Oil Heating Association, and the Oil Heat Institute of Long Island.
The EEE would not be successful without the enormous sponsorship support it receives. Thank you to all of this year's sponsors, those OESP members who assisted with the association's booth, and to the 2022 sponsors:

2022 Dave Nelsen Scholarship Recipients
|
|
The winners of the 2022 Dave Nelsen Scholarships were also announced at the EEE Conference. This scholarship was established in 1999 as a meaningful way to remember and recognize the commitment to education made by OESP member Dave Nelsen. The scholarship is awarded to students who are currently or planning to attend a technical college or trade school with plans to pursue a career in the oil and energy industry.
“We are extremely proud of the 2022 Dave Nelsen Scholarship recipients,” OESP President Scott Vadino said. “These individuals are the best of the best applicants and we are confident that they will continue the legacy of Dave Nelsen.”
“We are very thankful to our corporate, association and OESP chapter sponsors, who, along with OESP, co-sponsor the scholarships each year,” Vadino added.
“Our company is proud to be able to offer educational assistance to young people entering our industry” said Fred Hunt, Director of Sales & Marketing for R.W. Beckett, which supports the scholarships. “A career in the HVAC industry will offer a wealth of opportunities for these fine scholarship recipients.”
The 2022 Dave Nelsen Scholarship winners, pictured below with OESP Vice President Angel Gonzalez are:

Pete Gonzalez was awarded this year's Dan Holohan Grant. The award was created for an instructor at either an HVAC college or technical high school who wants to continue education or purchase tools or books for their classroom.
“I am very thankful to OESP for this grant,” Gonzalez said. “It will be used to provide my students extra equipment, such as controls for modern boilers, testing equipment for modern oil fires furnaces, boiler trim kits, and glass tubing for an instructional steam boiler. I have been in the oil industry since I graduated from a technical college, and I know the value of understanding all aspects of the industry. This grant money will provide an amazing opportunity to train my students with the correct equipment and tools to be the best technicians they can possibly be.”

The Annual Dave Nelsen Scholarship Golf Outing Was a Resounding Success!
|
|
The Annual Dave Nelsen Scholarship Golf Outing, led by George Fantacone, was an outstanding success. Once again the outing raised more than $20,000 for the scholarship fund, which awards thousands of dollars in tuition money to deserving students each year. Since the fund's inception in 1999, more than $300,000 has been raised.
More than 100 golfers came together for a beautiful day of golf and fun. Congratulations to George and the entire association for an outstanding event!

OESP Raises More than $11,000
at the Annual Care to Ride Event!
|
|
OESP raised more than $11,000 for Oil Heat Cares, during the annual Care to Ride event. The event, named “Ride for Ralph,” in memory of OESP’s National President, Ralph Adams, was held on Monday, May 23 during the annual Eastern Energy Expo at Mohegan Sun.
This year, as always, there were three divisions for the fundraiser: motorcycles, bicycles and walkers/runners.
The following OESP members were recognized as fundraising winners within their race division:
Highest Runner:
Mark Smith
Highest Motorcycle Rider:
Jim Froehlich
Highest Overall Fundraiser
Jim Froehlich
Highest Biker:
Team Taco
All proceeds raised by participants and sponsors were donated to Oil Heat Cares, the 501(c)(3) foundation, which receives donations throughout the year from seminars, donations and other events.
"We are proud of our members and their families who, without the help of sponsors, raised more than $11,000," OESP President Scott Vadino said. "We are grateful to those who spent some wonderful days at Mohegan Sun with us, raising money for this very important cause."
|
|
Oil Heat Cares assists needy persons and organizations by replacing their oil heating appliances when necessary. OESP gives aid to neighbors that need a temporary helping hand and installs the heating equipment at no cost to the homeowner.
“We appreciate the many OESP members who donate their time and talent by identifying a project for a customer or neighbor in need,” Vadino said. “There’s so many of our members who generously donate equipment or supplies, or participate in our fundraisers, such as Care to Ride.”
“Whether it is an equipment supplier, an owner, or a service technician, they are all teaming up to benefit others in need,” added Oil Heat Cares Chair David Bessette. “It is great to see local competitors team up to accomplish a common goal or to see a group of current employees spending time during the weekend to help out an oil heat customer going through a tough time.”
Bessette noted Oil Heat Cares has turned into a superb educational tool. Students have worked side-by-side with industry professionals, learning valuable skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives, gaining the satisfaction of giving back to their communities.

Message from the Executive Director
|
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the wildly successful return of the Eastern Energy Expo that took place last month at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. I truly enjoyed spending time with you and watching your continued dedication in running three days of educational classes, a fantastic awards banquet and your participation in the various fundraisers for Oil Heat Cares and the Dave Nelsen Scholarship.
I would like to thank the volunteers who worked the OESP membership booth with us – you were invaluable in our membership recruiting and spreading the word about the value of OESP.
You displayed our badge ribbons and wore your OESP shirts with pride and we were thrilled with your participation. You turned out in record numbers and the vendors were ecstatic over the traffic in the exhibit halls.
The annual OESP Awards banquet recognized OESP members who have given countless hours of their time to the industry. Once again, kudos to our awards committee led by Bob Daros in pulling off a tear-jerker of an evening. Congratulations to all the deserving winners.
The Dave Nelsen Scholarship awards were presented to five deserving students pursuing a career in the energy services industry. We would like to thank our generous sponsors for their support of this worthy cause: RW Beckett, Pompetti Oil, the South Central Pennsylvania Energy Association, the New Haven chapter, and the Mid Atlantic chapter.
The Care to Ride raised more than $11,000 for Oil Heat Cares, the non-profit foundation created by OESP to help those in need. Congratulations to all who participated in raising money for this worthy cause.
By now, you have seen plenty from our great and generous advertisers: Taco, R.W. Beckett, Suntec Industries, Carlin/Hyrdolevel, General Filters, Wohler, Sid Harvey, Roth, Weil-McLain and Energy Kinetics. And I am proud to welcome F.W. Webb as a new Corporate Partner for 2022. We welcome you and appreciate your support. You will see their logos at the top of this issue and you’ll see OESP happily promote them at every turn.
While many of the local OESP chapters will be taking a well-deserved break for the summer months, it will be bustling at OESP headquarters in New Jersey.
We will be planning the fall Oil Heat Retreat to be held at the Marriott in Peabody, Mass., just minutes from Salem, September 29 - October 2. We expect a record turnout as we get ready for one of the best events of the year. Come join us for some fun – maybe a witch tour, or a great dinner in Salem.
On behalf of Jonathan Jaffe, Meredith Levy, Andrea Klimkowski and the rest of your OESP management team, it continues to be a pleasure to serve you. OESP is known for its mission of education and service. We are happy to be a part of that. Have a terrific summer.
