The Office of Global Activities (OGA) is dedicated to connecting MSW students to international social work opportunities through fundingspecial programs, academic resources, internationalized curriculum, and arranging faculty and student exchanges at partner institutions.

2024 International Institute Student Fellowships (IISF)

International Institute Student Fellowships provide funding for enrolled U-M students, regardless of citizenship, who wish to participate in internships or conduct research abroad. 

The IISF Application allows you to apply for several different funding opportunities. Eligibility varies depending on the fellowship. More info on the application process can be found here.


In addition, an information session will be held on Friday, December 8, from 12:00 - 1:00 PM, in Weiser Hall, Room 555. Click here to RSVP.

Peace Corps Application Workshop

Ginger Houses Decorating

Date: Monday, December 4, 6:30 - 8:00 PM

Location: BSB 1060, Kraus Auditorium

Brief Description: Gingerbread houses made of cookies and candy are an old American and European winter holiday tradition. This event features a friendly competition in which small teams work together to assemble and decorate a gingerbread house, and the best house gets a prize! Meet new people, practice casual English, show off your creativity, and have some fun! Supplies will be provided to registered participants, and there will be plenty of food and drinks, too! I-20 Travel Signature Session

Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2:00 - 3:30 PM

Brief Description: The International Center staff will provide in-person I-20 travel signatures for F-1 students (and their dependents) who plan to travel internationally or need an updated signature.

Please bring the following documents with you to receive a travel signature:


Please do not submit a travel signature request through M-Passport if you will come to one of the in-person travel signature sessions.

Peace Corps Info Session: Go the Distance to Make a Difference

Date: Tuesday, December 5, 3:30 - 4:30 PM

Brief Description: This is a general information session about the Peace Corps. Learn about the work you could do as a Peace Corps Volunteer, where you could serve, and how to get involved today. International Student Lunch Conversation

Brief Description: International Student Lunch Conversation (ISLC) is a casual time and space for international students to connect with each other and talk about life as an international student in the U.S. and at U-M. ISLCs are co-sponsored by the International Center and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Third Annual Latinx Research Week

Puentes is a graduate student organization that aims to center the experiences and needs of Latinx graduate students across schools and disciplines at the University of Michigan. In pursuit of this goal, Puentes annually hosts Latinx Research Week (LRW). LRW is a conference that celebrates the scholarship of Latinx students, researchers, and faculty at U-M, and uplifts research relevant to Latinx communities. LRW provides a unique, interdisciplinary space where scholars across campus can share their research and build new connections. From March 11 to March 14, 2024, researchers will showcase their work through oral presentation sessions, a poster session, as well as attend other sponsored events. 

If you are interested in presenting your research, please fill out this form by Friday, January 26, at 5:00 PM. Submissions must include a title and 250-word abstract or description of your work. All student presenters will be awarded a certificate and entered to win raffle prizes in recognition of their contributions to their field.

Study Abroad in Northern Ireland with CIEL

The Center for International Experiential Learning (CIEL) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring creative and critical thinking by utilizing the unique power of experiential learning and international travel in conflict-affected regions.

CIEL's Summer 2024 program in Northern Ireland will run from June 16 - 28. Students will actively engage with politicians, community leaders, non-governmental organizations, faith leaders, academic experts, and victims/survivors from all sides impacted by the conflict to hear a comprehensive view of the divergent perspectives, narratives, and human stories of people living in the region.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and given priority in the order they are received, but the early bird application deadline is November 30. Click here here for more information and to apply.

Student Organization Global Health Equity Challenge

Center for Global Health Equity is looking for U-M student organizations that want to implement a global health equity related project that improves the health and well-being of people living in a low- or middle-income country. This program offers training for a pitch competition where teams representing student organizations will compete for funding for their project (top four finalists will receive funding, highest award is $5,000). At least one of the organization’s members must register for the mandatory prep workshop on December 1, 2023, from 1-5pm. The student organizations do not have to have a project already defined to participate in the workshop, but the organization must have undergraduate students involved (or be willing to bring them into the mix), and they need to be able to show evidence of a collaborative relationship with a partner in the country in which they plan to work. OAMI Dreamer Scholarship: Deadline Extended

Dreamer Scholarship aims to break down barriers and financially assist undocumented students at the University of Michigan. This scholarship not only covers tuition fees but also covers other expenses that may inhibit degree completion. Every student deserves a chance to excel, regardless of their immigration status. 

Application deadline is November 10, 2023. Students can expect to hear back by mid-December regarding their scholarship application. Click here for more information and apply.

Outreach Coordinator: U-M Nam Center for Korean Studies
