Spotlight: Unity in Diversity Dinner | |

Please join the Office of Global Activities, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Global Social Work Practice Pathway for conversations about social justice from a global lens!
During the event, there will be tables set up where attendees who are interested in discussing a similar social justice issue can sit together and discuss how that issue manifests in different communities across the globe. Participants will have the opportunity to rotate to different tables to discuss more than one theme.
Students, faculty members, and staff will be served dinner from different restaurants in Ann Arbor that serve food reflecting various global cuisine.

Healing Through Movement

Brief Description: Join the Global Social Work Practice Pathway and Self-Healing and Social Justice Art Collective for an interactive workshop using dance movement therapy for healing and nurturing overall well-being. Experience the power of movement in promoting holistic well-being, empowerment and social change with Dr. Sohini Chakraborty, Founder and Director of Kolkata Sanved, a Dance Movement Therapy organization based in Kolkata, India.

The Gaza Crisis and Bigotry Toward Arab- and Muslim-Americans

However, when they cross international borders, especially when they or their family members are undocumented, these rights and protections are not always safeguarded. This facilitated discussion brings in conversation authors of two recent books on unaccompanied minors and family separation in the United States: Chiara Galli’s Precarious Protections: Unaccompanied Minors Seeking Asylum in the US and Silvia Rodriguez Vega’s Drawing Deportation: Art and Resistance among Immigrant Children. Trans and Nonbinary Passport Clinic

Brief Description: The School of Social Work Office of Global Activities, U-M Spectrum Center, and U-M Center for Global and Intercultural Study are collaborating to host a Trans and Nonbinary Passport Clinic. During this event, the Washtenaw County Clerk's office will assist students and community members to apply for, renew, or make changes to their passport in the form of a name change or updated gender marker. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to have a passport photo taken on-site at no cost. This event is hosted specifically for folks needing a gender marker or name change, but all individuals applying for a new or renewed passport are welcome to attend. Student Organization Global Health Equity Challenge
Center for Global Health Equity is looking for U-M student organizations that want to implement a global health equity related project that improves the health and well-being of people living in a low- or middle-income country. This program offers training for a pitch competition where teams representing student organizations will compete for funding for their project (top four finalists will receive funding, highest award is $5,000). At least one of the organization’s members must register for the mandatory prep workshop on December 1, 2023, from 1-5pm. The student organizations do not have to have a project already defined to participate in the workshop, but the organization must have undergraduate students involved (or be willing to bring them into the mix), and they need to be able to show evidence of a collaborative relationship with a partner in the country in which they plan to work. OAMI Dreamer Scholarship: Deadline Extended
Dreamer Scholarship aims to break down barriers and financially assist undocumented students at the University of Michigan. This scholarship not only covers tuition fees but also covers other expenses that may inhibit degree completion. Every student deserves a chance to excel, regardless of their immigration status.
