Robin Martz has nearly 30 years of public health experience both domestically and internationally in the areas of Maternal and Child Health, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Nutrition, Hygiene, and Emerging Pandemic Threats. Robin is currently the USAID Director of the Office of Health in Ukraine.

Environmental Justice and Well-being: Improving Energy Access to Empower Women in Rural India

Brief Description: This webinar will discuss a recently published study demonstrating the impact of providing skills-based training through a solar lamp initiative on women's empowerment. Longitudinal data from 313 women associated with the solar initiative in the states of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, were collected to predict three indicators of women's empowerment — assertiveness, decision-making, and satisfaction. The study found that women's perceptions of assertiveness, satisfaction, and decision-making ability significantly changed. Click here for more information and to register.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Institute of International Education (IIE), on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which offers research, study, and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students. This competition is administered on campus by the International Institute. National deadline approaching: Apply by October 10, 2023, at 5 PM EDT.

Passport Day
The Global Engagement U.S. Passport Grant Program is a new initiative of the Office of the Provost designed to provide financial and administrative support for the purpose of obtaining a U.S. Passport. A valid passport opens the doors for students to pursue valuable international experiences, including study abroad, internships, research, volunteer opportunities, competitions, and conferences. Applicants awarded the Global Engagement U.S. Passport Grant must be available to attend the Passport Day Workshop for one hour on Monday, December 4, 2023 (multiple time slots will be available throughout the day). Passport Day is a one-day event where the Washtenaw County Clerk's Office will be on campus to accept passport applications. The application deadline is Monday, October 30, 2023.

The U-M International Institute is currently accepting applications for the Masters in International and Regional Studies (MIRS) program. MIRS combines an interdisciplinary curriculum, deep regional/thematic expertise, rigorous methodological training, and international experiences to enable students to situate global issues and challenges in their cultural, historical, geographical, political, and socioeconomic contexts and to approach them in diverse ways.
