Pharmacist Exam Application Information for 2027 Graduates

This email provides instructions and information on the requirements and process to apply for a pharmacist license in the State of Ohio. The full guidance is available on the Board’s website here.

Requirements for an Ohio Pharmacist License by Examination

To become licensed as an Ohio Pharmacist by Examination, all applications must meet the following requirements:

• Obtain a PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy 
• Submit an application and fee to the Board via eLicense Ohio
• Complete BCI and FBI criminal records checks with results submitted directly to the Board of Pharmacy
• Complete the Ohio Pharmacy Law Course
• Successfully complete the required examinations: NAPLEX and UMPJE

Uniform Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (UMPJE)

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has developed a new jurisprudence exam – the Uniform Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam or UMPJE. The Ohio Board of Pharmacy has adopted the UMPJE as an exam that meets the licensure requirements for a pharmacist by examination (OAC 4729:1-2-01). The UMPJE will be the only acceptable jurisprudence examination for 2027 graduates. 

Graduates from an Ohio school of pharmacy have the option to take this examination prior to graduation.

IMPORTANT: To participate in the early jurisprudence examination program and have the option to schedule the UMPJE prior to graduation, you must submit the UMPJE eligibility application to NABP prior to December 1, 2026. Once approved, you will have 1 year from the date of approval to purchase and sit for your exam. All exam eligibility applications submitted on or after December 1, 2026 will not be reviewed and approved by NABP until after graduation.

Ohio Pharmacy Law Course Module

The Board has developed a brief online review of pharmacy laws and rules specific to Ohio. This course module is available on-demand and free of cost. The course module is approximately 60 minutes in length and includes 16 law and rule review videos with 6 quiz questions throughout. It must be completed by each applicant individually. A maximum of three (3) attempts will be allowed once an applicant has graduated. There is no waiting period between attempts. 

The law course module can be completed at any time during your last year of pharmacy school (before graduation) or after graduation. You are not required to take and pass the UMPJE before taking the course module. Law course module completion prior to graduation will transfer from your pharmacy intern license to your examination application once submitted. 

It is important to note that the information covered in the videos is not intended to be study material for the UMPJE.

How do I access the Ohio Pharmacy Law Course?

You may access the course at any time during the licensure process – even before you take your exams. To access the course, please select the link below and use the credentials provided to log in.

It is important that you use a desktop or laptop computer to access and complete the course as it is not designed for mobile devices such as tablets and cellular phones. Additionally, you should plan to complete the course in one sitting. Progress will not be saved if the web browser is closed or inactive for a long period of time; therefore, you will need to re-start the course.

What happens after I pass the course?

When you complete the course and receive passing results on the quiz, you will receive an automated email from the Board. Your results will be provided to the Board’s Licensing Department. Upon graduation and submission of your Ohio pharmacist application to the Board, your passing result will be noted as completed for your license requirements.

NABP's NAPLEX/MPJE Candidate Application Bulletin

NABP’s 2026 NAPLEX/MPJE Candidate Application Bulletin has the current information and resources to apply for and complete the required examinations. The bulletin contains information related to pre-examination test opportunities, armed forces discounts, requesting ADA testing accommodations, requirements and procedures for taking the exams, examination results, and much more. The bulletin is available on NABP’s website here. IMPORTANT – NABP will likely make changes to the bulletin as Spring graduation nears. The Board will update their guidance with new information as it becomes available.
