Cheers to Speyburn's Companion Casks!
We're kicking off 2020 with a unique barrel release on Jan. 10. Three barrels of Speyburn's Companion Cask will hit OHLQ locations for you to snag.
We worked with Master Distiller Bobby Anderson to taste and select these barrels, specifically for Ohio.
W
hat makes these barrels so unique is the scotch is matured in Buffalo Trace Distillery Casks. This is Speyburn's way of paying tribute to the
enduring connection and rich traditions shared by Speyside and Kentucky.
To bring a bit more of the Speyside region to Ohio, we'll welcome Brand Education Manager Steph Ridgway to Giant Eagle in Lewis Center for the release. Steph has spent the better part of a decade honing her palate and intensifying her knowledge on Scotch whisky, and we are excited to have her in town to help us launch this release.
This is your last chance to grab the fall issue of
Forty-Two+,
and look for the winter issue to come out in a few weeks. Be sure to 'like' our
Facebook page
for these announcements and more.
Please enjoy this special release and all products responsibly.
Cheers!

About Speyburn
Speyburn's founder, John Hopkins discovered a unique spot, in the heart of Speyside, ideal for making exceptionally smooth whisky. He discovered the Granty Burn an undisturbed stream with soft, high quality water, secluded in a Spey valley; the perfect ground to establish his distillery. In 1897, Queen Victoria was celebrating the 60th year of her reign and Hopkins, never one to let a celebration go to waste, set himself a challenge; to build a distillery and craft a whisky in time to toast the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
On the last night of the year, Hopkins and his team toiled through a storm of Arctic proportions to craft the first cask of Speyburn in time to toast the Queen’s Jubilee. Determined that their first bottle would bear the year 1897 on its label, Hopkins and his men battled against the elements. After hours of hard work, and with the help of the heroic efforts of his distillery men, Hopkins finally triumphed and was rewarded with the first barrel of Speyburn whisky.
Speyburn Companion Cask celebrates Speyburn’s long history of only using the best casks, sourced from Kentucky’s finest distillers. Meticulously air-dried in the traditional way and with the last drops of sweet bourbon extracted, this sought-after, empty cask was shipped to Speyside, where it was filled with smooth, Speyburn spirit. Here the liquid mellowed in our traditional dunnage warehouse, the subtle complexities of the oak, and the soft, Speyside air, added to the character of the whisky. The result; a unique single cask of sweet, creamy whisky with vanilla and citrus notes and a warm, smooth aftertaste.
