Greetings ohna members!
I am writing this to you on the summer solstice. It’s always a special day for me. Well in all actuality two of them! It signals for me to be thankful for light and in December darkness. Both are capable of delivering so much. The longest day of the year gives me more time to watch scrub Jays steal my blueberries in the late afternoon light. It allows me to think about how I can be outside more and can connect with nature. For me it is a special time. Like I have arrived somewhere and now can just be. Warmth, growth, and activities abound. I also feel like I can slow down a bit more after the rapid growth of spring (in between all those activities and summer plans) to take a minute and sit back to ask myself what is it that I would enjoy right now? What do I need? How is it that I can be nourished?
I think about a blog that was written earlier this year by Rene, our treasurer, that discussed holism. Holism in the sense of the Interconnectedness of things. One day, I felt scattered, struggling, and like I wasn’t doing enough. I went for a walk in the woods, did some deep breathing, ran my hands through rosemary, and smiled at the sun glistening off the water. It was wonderful and yet I still struggled. After someone asked me how I was doing and I told them the truth, I felt seen and heard. After that conversation, I went home to meditate and came out refreshed after finding what I needed; maybe what I was missing- community, caring, spirituality, nature, purpose, and connection with self. It brought me back to interconnectedness. How mind, body, spirit, and emotions all commingle together in this playground of life. I share this with you as my holistic community knowing that you can understand and perhaps to remind us that sometimes it’s one thing that can affect or change it all, and sometimes it feels like all the things and you might need all the things. What a tool box we have!
