Hazak Lunch and Learn - Russian Jewry with Harvey Leifert
Wednesday, May 22, 11:30 AM-1:00 PM
As increasing numbers of Soviet Jews applied to emigrate to Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War, many were formally refused permission to leave. Eventually up to a million Soviet Jews were able to leave the country for Israel, America, and other countries. But, what of those who never left-have you wondered about their fate? OKC member Harvey Leifert was able to find out about them during a visit to Moscow and St. Petersburg last summer. Come hear about it. Bring your lunch and bring a friend! Read more here.

OKC Tikkun Leil Shavuot - Saturday Night June 8

Ohr Kodesh will again have its Tikkun Leil Shavuot, the study session on the first night of Shavuot commemorating the night when the Israelites anticipated the giving of Torah. It will be Saturday evening, June 8, going into Sunday morning, June 9.

There will be some pre- Tikkun study sessions on  Shabbat between Minchah which will begin at 6:30 pm and Arvit. The Tikkun program itself will begin with Arvit for the festival, at 9:15 pm, followed by a dinner -- no reservations needed and no charge. The study sessions will begin around 10:15 am, and will be in two series, one on the theme of Ta'amei HaMitzvot (rationales for the commandments), and the other not organized by theme. The Tikkun will end at 5:30 am with the early Shacharit.

Please consider teaching a session at the Tikkun -- contact Glenn Farber ( [email protected]) or Richard Friedman ( [email protected]), who will discuss any ideas and will suggest possible sources, in Hebrew or in English. If you'd like to teach at one of the early evening sessions, contact Sharon Light at [email protected]. There are plenty of opportunities to share your knowledge and explore topics with your fellow congregants.
