Last week the Oklahoma City Council made a significant leap in addressing the affordable housing crisis by adopting the Housing Affordability Implementation Plan. With the city currently facing a shortage of over 44,000 housing units, as well as the impact of rapid growth of the past decade on housing costs, this plan comes at a critical moment. A key element of the plan is the creation of a Principal Housing Position to coordinate and streamline the city's efforts. This role will ensure a strategic and comprehensive approach to providing high-quality affordable housing options for all residents.

The council also took an important step to address bad actors in the home-sharing industry by approving the purchase of software to identify active, unlicensed home shares in Oklahoma City. This initiative aims to bring these properties into compliance, promoting fairness and accountability while helping to enhance stability in neighborhoods across the city.
