Promotions
OLA is pleased to announce the recent promotion of Robert Gruffi, P.E. to Associate. Mr. Gruffi has been a mechanical engineer and project manager with the firm for 10 years. Current projects that Mr. Gruffi is working on include the rooftop hotel at Bell Works in Holmdel, NJ; the renovation of St. Michael's Villa in Englewood Cliffs, NJ; 1 Great Jones Alley in Manhattan; and multiple projects for Ralph Lauren's corporate facilities.

 
NYC DOB Construction Code Revision Committee
Principal in Charge of Mechanical Engineering, Jill Walsh, P.E. has been selected to serve as a member of the Mechanical, HVAC, and Boiler Technical Committee for the NYC Department of Buildings 2017 Construction Codes Revision Cycle. As a committee member, Jill will attend meetings and actively participate in the discussion of potential changes to the Code through re-writing of specific sections of the current code within her areas of expertise. The committee works to improve the quality of life and safety of all New Yorkers.

OLA Wins Multiple Awards

Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture
OLA won the Engineering Project of the Year from the Westchester/Putnam Chapter of the NSPE, and a Platinum Award for Energy Engineering from the NY Chapter of ACEC for the engineering involved in an Energy Use Reduction Program for the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture. As energy manager for the 80-acre farm and community center, OLA performed a comprehensive sustainability master plan that presents a path to net zero energy usage for the campus with a series of energy-use reduction projects and on-site energy generation projects budgeted over a twenty-year period. Several projects have already been completed; including the new central chiller plant pictured here.

Great Neck Library
As a sub-consultant to KG+D Architects, OLA provided MEP and fire protection engineering for the 45,000 square foot renovation to the Great Neck Library. The project was a complete renovation of the existing library to support their current services and emerging programming and technologyincluding all new HVAC systems, lighting, fire alarm, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as the addition of a new fire sprinkler system. The completed project received a 2017 High Honor Award from the AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley.

Hudson River HealthCare Peekskill
Working for Gallin Beeler Design Studio, OLA provided MEP and fire protection engineering for the renovation and addition to the Hudson River HealthCare facility in Peekskill, NY. In addition to serving the general community, the healthcare facility serves the low-income population of Peekskill, with a special focus on those who are elderly, homeless, living with HIV/AIDS, and recovering from alcohol and substance abuse. The completed 24,000 square foot project received an 2017 Citation Award from the AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley .

A/D/O
As a sub-consultant to nARCHITECTS, OLA designed of the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, and provided energy modeling services for the renovation of a 23,000 square foot warehouse building into a multifaceted, creative community space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn's Industrial Business Zone. The renovation received an 2017 Architecture Merit Award from AIA New York, as well as the 2017 MASterworks Award for Best Adaptive Reuse by the Municipal Arts Society of New York.



Boston Road Housing
Working for Alexander Gorlin Architects, OLA provided the MEP and fire protection engineering for the Boston Road Housing development in the Bronx. The 90,000 square foot building has 154 affordable apartments that are set aside for New Yorkers who were formerly homeless, as well as seniors, those living with HIV/AIDS, and MediCaid users. The completed project received an AIA New York State Excelsior Award of Merit for Public Architecture Award .

Toys for Tots
OLA was a private campaign sponsor for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve "Toys for Tots" Program this past December.  Our two collection  boxes  overflowed with  toys and gifts  generously donated by our employees  throughout the month. The donations were picked up and distributed to needy children throughout the Westchester community in time for Christmas. If you are interested in learning more about the "Toys for Tots" Program, check out the website  here  for more information. #olacares


Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico
County Executive Robert Astorino launched a "Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico" drive across Westchester County last fall. OLA employees participated in this drive to help the population of Puerto Rico impacted by the hurricanes last year. We collected essential supplies that were shipped to the U.S. territory's residents that were in need of assistance. The county collected donations through December, as well as took donations for a toy drive for Puerto Rico for Three Kings Day. #olacares 
 
Breast Cancer Walk
OLA sponsored a team of employees, families and friends at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk this past October for the second year in a row. The 5k walk took place at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. Participants in the event raised money to fund research as well as provided free information, support and services to anyone touched by breast cancer. In addition to the walk, OLA set up a donation page for the American Cancer Society. #olacares
