COOKIN' AT THE O - JAZZ & DINNER
PIPPI ARDENNIA

A Chicago native who has been singing professionally since she was 13 years old, Pippi has performed in Chicago’s most respected jazz clubs – from the Burning Spear and Mr. Kelly’s to the famous Rosebud on Rush, Green Dolphin, the Chicago Symphony Center and the Taste of Chicago.

Pippi is a natural entertainer, sultry at times, always powerful and exciting, but what sweeps you away is the electric raw emotion that emanates from her to you, telling a story in song like you’ve never heard before, a natural power in nature.

“Ms. Ardennia’s classy style puts her in the Major League of jazz vocalists. Her easy-going style and varied delivery does stand in comparison to the great jazz divas such as Ella Fitzgerald and Lena Horne.” –Ian Telle

GREAT MUSIC, FOOD AND FUN!

Pippi Ardennia - vocals
Daniel Leahy - piano
Matthew Mobley - bass
Glenn Swanson - drums

FINNISH FARE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
Chicago saxophonist Juli Wood delved into her own Finnish heritage for material to explore on her newest recording. With hauntingly beautiful melodies and harmonies that invite new interpretations, Juli creates inspired performances of Finnish folk songs.

“She weaves her own straight forward statements from the horn with a great deal of heart and a real heaping helping of soul.”

Paul Silbergleit, a Milwaukee-based jazz guitarist, composer, educator, and author, accompanies Juli on guitar.

OLDENBURG ARTS AND CULTURAL COMMUNITY

Document Spring 2019 is an art and citizen science ‘bioblitz’ that brings together individuals, organizations, high school and college students to capture the emergence of spring with artistic and scientific observations.

The project is guided by expert phenologists and photographers, who help participants create images of spring’s arrival at the St. Louis River, Jay Cooke State Park and other unique and dramatic Carlton County locations.

Beginning April 13 and continuing through May 31, participants join safaris led by Document Spring guides or venture out on their own, capturing images and observing nature’s seasonal change.

MATT KANIA

DOing: A Labor of Love

Duluth artist Matt Kania' paintings capture the spirit of artists and artisans doing what they love -- like baking bread, turning wood bowls, creating pottery, weaving, and more. Fascinated with the love and care they give to their art or craft, Matt's oil paintings tell us there's an artist in all of us yearning to create and share with others.

ADAM SWANSON

EXHIBITION OPENING AT MAGNOLIA CAFE

Come to Magnolia Cafe for the Salon and Opening Reception for Cloquet oil painter Adam Swanson.

Adam’s work explores the deep relationship between art and science, the fragility of the human presence and nature's perseverance, and the underlying threads of danger woven through our future. Adam's exhibit runs through June 9 - showing us that the more we learn about our surroundings, where we came from and who we are, the more likely we will thrive in a universe of endless possibilities.

KATHERINE HILLBRAND

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

Katherine Hillbrand, emeritus principal at Sala Architects, will discuss how she uses the underlying principles of “slojd” in her architectural designs. Her goal has been to bring beauty and delight into her client’s intimate everyday living.
