Our Lady of Guadalupe School fosters Gospel values, inspires academic excellence, and develops service and leadership. We face this as a sacramental community united and

sponsored by the Holy Spirit.

Principal's Letter

Dear Families,

This week, we look ahead to the end of the month; to Catholic Schools’ Week, and all the many ways we celebrate who we are as a community, and a Catholic education in general. I invite you to look closely at the video shared above, and review the calendar of events in the sections below, as well as opportunities to sign up, be involved and participate! Tomorrow, we will be sending out the FCE, and will provide your families with invitations to share for Special Persons’ Day. Also included in the FCE will be information about the Annual Fund, and the ways that we help make sure that our school is set up to grow and thrive in all areas, through monetary support. Please be sure to return your FCE envelopes to the office next week.

For Catholic Schools’ Week, mark your calendar for the kickoff with Open House on Sunday, January 28th from 10am- 1pm. All classrooms will have wonderful things on display, and many middle school students will be present to share their work and lead tours on behalf of the entire middle school. Please be sure to stop by and see all the many things afoot! Join us for 11am Mass too, as we celebrate the Eucharist together; a key component of what makes us different than other private schools, our faith. Students who check in with their teachers at Open House, in uniform, will have free dress later during Catholic Schools’ Week!

In other important news, please note a major time shift for the Winter Concert, now set to begin at 5:30pm on Wednesday, January 31st. The day is the same, the time is earlier. Why? After many discussions and extensive feedback, it has been adjusted to accommodate our young families, align better with dinner for all students, and allow for students (and families and staff too) to be better rested and ready for the following day. If your child typically is in EDC or ELC aftercare until 6pm, please let us know, so that we can plan accordingly and make sure that your child is at the winter concert in time. Doors will open at 5pm. More details and information to come. CYO practices for that evening will be adjusted accordingly or canceled (and communicated by coaches/ CYO) to ensure attendance at the evening performance that Ms. Sager, Miss McKamey and all our performers have worked so hard on.

For further details and information about Catholic Schools Week (CSW), please check out the schedule, and pay attention to teacher newsletters in the weeks to come.

Lastly, and in separate news, if there is a need for helping hands to shovel snow, remove ice, etc. and you have interest in helping, please feel free to simply show up with a shovel, or tool, or just gloves and a positive attitude, on any snow day or late start. Dave, our Facilities Director, would love a helping hand. This includes over the weekend too-- while we may not be calling as a school to let you know the weather has changed, Mass still occurs, and I know any help would be appreciated. Volunteer hours will be doubled if you help out. Thank you in advance.

Wishing you all well. Stay warm! Recess tomorrow will be fully indoors due to the cold. Students should still dress accordingly, and in uniform, for the chilly temps!

With Gratitude,

Ms. Lauren Hobbs

Looking for volunteer hours?

We've created a schoolwide sign-up genius specifically for CSW:

Sign up for Catholic Schools Week 2024

We are especially in need of parents in each classroom during Open House on Sunday, Jan 28th. We need 1-2 volunteers per classroom per 1.5-hour shift (10-11:30 and 11:30-1). The most crucial time we need volunteers is during mass when the teachers are away (10:45-12). All volunteers need to be knowledgeable of the classroom and someone who speaks well of the school and community.

Final Parish Families to be Announced Feb 3rd

On November 16, 2023, the Archdiocese released a letter from Archbishop Etienne and a Parish Feedback Report which synthesizes more than 3,000 pages of feedback from over 700 input session reports and 800 online forms during the Public Input Phase this fall. A review of the feedback was made by the Presbyteral Council, Priest Personnel Board, Oversight Committee, Partners Core team and Archbishop Etienne. As a result, proposed changes emerged for 25 parish families. There was a second round of consultation with staff and parishioners with these 25 proposed parish families. Archbishop Etienne is now in the final stages of discernment, and the final list of parish families will be released on February 3rd. You will find more information on our parish website.

CABIN FEVER BREAKOUT!!!

Everyone is invited on Saturday, January 20, 6:30-8:30 pm in the gym for an evening of games, food and fellowship to fend off the dark days of winter and being cooped up in the home! There will be bingo, cards, spoons, karaoke, and corn hole and other games for kids and the young at heart! Proceeds will go towards our Vacation Bible Camp. CLICK HERE for more information including opportunities to volunteer!

Help Needed for Local Afghan Families

The OLG immigrant ministry needs drivers to provide rides to English lessons for our sponsored Afghan family. Classes are weekdays downtown, and rides are between South Seattle and the downtown classroom. This is a lovely, easy way to support our new neighbors and log steady service hours. Drivers undergo a background check and must have a license and insurance in good standing. Questions? Contact Immigrant Ministry chair Kathleen Sullivan or 206/372-4240.

Eucharistic Exposition & Adoration

Join us on the first Fridays of each month after our morning Mass until 11:00 am for exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is not something new. It is a centuries-old practice rooted in an essential teaching of Catholic Christianity: Jesus Christ is truly and completely present in the Eucharist. Spending time in Eucharistic Adoration with our Divine Lord and Friend is a good place to go to ask what he wants with your life. You are also invited to come at other times for personal prayer but for security reasons, please contact the Parish Office to arrange to have access to the church.

CATHOLIC 101: This month’s topic:

“21 Days of Self-Care with Biblical Inspiration”

Beginning this month, our parish will provide a monthly e-newsletter which explores a key aspect of our Catholic faith or a current topic of importance to Catholics. Written in everyday language, it will help you connect Church teaching to daily life. CLICK HERE for this month’s article.
