Dear Families,
The time has come for Catholic Schools’ Week, with a noon dismissal tomorrow (EDC open until 6!), and Open House from 10-1pm on Sunday with 11am Mass in between! It is an exciting and eventful time on campus, and we cannot wait to celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week with all of you!
This week, we focus on what makes Catholic education and OLG special. For me, Catholic education is about forming the whole person in a rich relationship founded on a connection to Christ, to prayer and to stewardship, and to one another. Catholic education allows us to openly talk about God in our classrooms, apply life lessons linked to the Catholic Social Teaching, and helps us to establish a place where students, families and staff can grow as lifelong learners, knowing that they are engulfed in the love of God, and never walk alone. Catholic education is all about forming people in mind, body, heart and spirit, not just in academic knowledge alone. At OLG, we live our mission, as a community united and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We grow in our understanding of the Gospel values (humility, truth, compassion, kindness, hope, justice, forgiveness, reconciliation, integrity, peace, courage, etc) through strong foundations and through social emotional learning, religion classes, and intentional relationship building. Catholic or not, the Gospel values are basic building blocks to being successful, good people who go out into the world and make it better than they found it. Here at Guadalupe, this is what we’d refer to as faith in action; living out the faith that we teach through our choices, and how we choose to walk in this world and with one another. We see Christ in one another all the time, and best of all, we get to recognize it, say it and share it with all, openly and honestly. To me, that’s such a gift and valuable component of Catholic education. Jesus loved everyone, regardless of their religion, race or creed, where they were from or who they knew, sick or well-- Jesus cared for everyone, even those who didn’t care for him in return. How fortunate we are to teach this model of love: unwavering, undeterred, unblemished, unconditional.
What does Catholic education and OLG mean to you and your family? I invite you to share it with me via email. I’d love to know why you and your family chose OLG and Catholic education!
On Sunday, we begin Catholic Schools’ Week with Open House. Doors open at 10am. This is a wonderful time for us to come together as a community, as alumni, as parishioners, and prospective families. Your kids will have great work on display, we will have middle schoolers leading tours, and being guides in their classrooms. Come and take a look! Volunteer! We can always use the extra hand!
Next week, we will be communicating with you throughout the days of the events to come. You can see the broader outline below too. If you are interested in ordering Hot Lunch on Special Persons’ Day (Thursday), the calendar is live now too, but you must order by Wednesday 1:00 pm (a sack lunch for your Special Person works too!)
Wishing you a wonderful week, and looking forward to seeing you on Sunday! Full Dress uniform, checking in with teachers, gets you Free Dress on Monday! Please be sure to join us at Mass too at 11am. Even if you are not Catholic, this gives you a great opportunity to see what your kids experience as members of our Catholic community. We hope to see you there!
