Principal's Letter

Dear Families,

Thank you to the many of you who were able to attend Jodee Blanco’s presentation last week! I will be sharing some family resources with all of you in our next newsletter. Thank you to the many who also attended Mass on Sunday! It was great to celebrate our Catholic education and faith formation programs.

This afternoon/evening, we encourage you to invite any and all prospective families to join us for our Fall Open House from 4:30- 6:30pm. This is a great opportunity for new families and community members to take advantage of tours, open classrooms, present staff, and even see things like EDC and ELC aftercare in action. You are welcome to attend, but please know that this is focused on prospective families, with our main Open House taking place in January during Catholic Schools’ Week. We hope you bring new potential families for this year or next, and invite and encourage you to share the goddess of our community more broadly. You are our greatest ambassadors. If a prospective family that YOU invite comes in tonight and writes down your name (or brings a raffle ticket from your FCE last week), YOU will be entered into a raffle to win a $100 gift certificate to Mioposto. Tasty!

In other news-- the weather is shifting into fall, and into coat season. I strongly encourage your child(ren) to have their “blues” in their backpacks at all times, since we do not wear coats and non-uniform attire inside. Hats are also fine outside, but may not be worn inside. We have also had questions about boots. Boots are not permitted on uniform days, as they are generally not safe for PE, and with so many variations, are not always safe for slippery sidewalks, hills, the blacktop, etc. If it’s raining or snowing (not yet), rain boots may be worn, but shoes will need to be brought to switch into once in the classroom. Thank you for understanding. Leggings under uniform skirts are completely fine, but cannot be worn as pants. Please check the dress code, or ask if you have any questions. Lastly, for those who are new, we do go outside for recess when it is drizzling and when it is cold. As that is quite common in Seattle in the fall and winter, we do not stay indoors at all times (really only if it is below freezing or down-pouring). Please plan accordingly. If your child is prone to finding the only puddle on campus (I was!), I encourage you to throw a change of clothes in their backpacks as backup.

Have a wonderful rest of your week. Hope to see you tonight, and if not tonight, next Thursday at our 9am All School Mass, led by our glorious 5th graders!

Seeking Trunk or Treat volunteers for grades 1, 4, 5, 6, 7!

This is a fun & easy one! Decorate a car in a festive way and pass out candy (provided by Parent Org). Trunk or treat is just 2 hours this year (3-5pm) so everyone can explore the carnival. Prize given for the most creative trunk!

We also need volunteers to help run carnival games. This is basically checking wristbands and handing out prizes. Short 90-min shifts allow everyone to enjoy the Carnival AND volunteer. Pitch in a little or a lot, all help is greatly appreciated!

The OLG Carnival is open to the community as well as parishioners and Bulldog grads. Round up a crew and we’ll see you there!

Global Synod

Please keep our Archbishop Paul Etienne in prayer as he and many other bishops, cardinals, experts and lay leaders of the Church gather once again with our Holy Father, Pope Francis in the month of October in Rome. They will continue the process of Synodal listening and feedback, resulting perhaps in the sources of teaching of the Church in the future. Archbishop Blog // Synod official website
